I won't be gaming on this laptop is gonna be purely for programmming and normal use, like google and youtube stuff. Also i'll be doing mainly 2D stuff.\

Also i would like to know what are the important components or specs for programming so maybe in the future build me a rig for it.

we are at a point where being nitpicky about little things are the most important for laptops the crap you have to work around in your day.

battery life you need?

price range ?

new vs used?

location in the world?

what os are you most comfortable in?

is high screen resolution or display out resolution important?

sound quality?

are you going to use it for presentations?

what ports and connections are a must?

think about these things along with what amount of repairability and how long you plan to own it.

$500 up to $700

It's pretty hard to get a laptop with H/HQ CPU with this budget which is the best hardware for your usage IMO

Desktop specs:

Spoiler

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

Montech Century 850W Gold Tecware Nexus Air (Black) ATX Mid Tower

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16ACH6

The keyboard is very important. The other utility features depend on your usage (battery, weight, screen, etc). Two cores, iGPU and 8gb ram are enough for almost everything. A SSD is a must. I use a Thinkpad T450s and it works for me. A faster CPU would be good for big projects (e.g. one needs over 10 min for a full test run), but the other features are more important.

i don't mind buying used things but they need to last at least 2 years.

About battery life , for me would be fine with 3-4 hours using it.

i prefer windows but i can also use linux.

sound is not important for me, i just need it to be efficient at programming.

Yeah maybe i will be doing some presentations and about ports im just gonna conect my mouse and headphones ,so with 2 USb conections im totally fine.

I just did this for my every day carry laptop and since sound isn't that important look at a mid-2012 MacBook Pro they are cheap now mine was $330 for a 13" MacBook Pro mid-2012 the sound sucks on these its clear but not loud and the audio outs are great the internal speakers are crap the screen is 1280x800 but has great color and the i5 ivy bridge is still a usable cpu I have virtual box on here already and haven't gotten to installing linux in it so I can't really say how well it does that yet but I haven't had any performance issues battery life with the screen brightness all the way up is about 4-6 hours for me sitting doing things like youtube and the forums I put 16Gb of ram in it and dual 480gb ssds in it because I didn't need the optical drive but might change it back eventually and get a Samsung 850 evo 1tb drive and call it a day and put the dvd drive back in it this isn't my "performance" machine thats at my office and its a i5 dell with 16GB of ram and a 1050ti. but for a laptop I have to say its realy a great computer for the price I'm all in with 2 chargers and my upgrades for $700.

2 usb 3.0 type A (both on left side)

1 thunderbolt1 display out

1 Rj45 ethernet

1 SD card slot

1 firewire 800

cd/dvd slot load

3.5mm headphones jack

battery indicator

IR port for the presentation remote with bluetooth headset

all in a aluminum body you can take everything out of with 4 screwdrivers and L shaped MagSafe charger

who would have thought apple would give you all of this? I would have bought the 2013 retina 13" but I need the RJ45 for work some times and if you don't need it the retina is a better deal for the screen quality look around at some of the older options and see what you can find that just need a SSD and its ready to go again older gaming laptops are great for power but are to heavy and at this point personally I take keyboard feel and trackpad accuracy over raw power.

Could you list out all laptops with 8250U/8550U/2500U/2700U CPU that are within your budget?

I am because its the best deal going some one hooked me up and I'm passing it on what do you have that beats it at this price point I tried very hard to beat it and couldn't because I didn't want a Mac but it has some of the best specs for the price and the best build quality and resale price is great when you choose to pass it on they resell for $700-1000 with the SSD and ram upgrade done. what PC can promise that at all?

I bought mine off amazon look at Luke miani on youtube for a buyers guide to MacBooks for resale which is how you buy a Mac let some one else pay full price for you laptop.

But not everyone is going to buy it so...no need to flood all threads with the same thing

Can put this deal in the Hot Deals section though

but not giving them the option is wrong not everyone needs or wants a brand new computer with a i7-i9 8th gen or would like to open it and make it theirs or don't have the money for 1 tb upfront and want the option later when they have the money. every time I posted this laptop it was to some one who it would be a viable option and everyone else pushed them to buy a latest and greatest when it might not be what they actually need and might be a waste of their money to buy it some times you just get more for your money doing it yourself.

thats actually a great deal what kind of shape is the rest of it in is it clean no dents or mashed corners? its ready to work right out of the box with that spec if you can find a i7 do it because they resell better but the i5 is great for most people this is still a mid level laptop for power I haven't found a point where it wouldn't do what I wanted yet including basic games like civ V on steam.

if you don't need all the ports on it (I need the RJ45) the 2013 retina is a great deal also with a much better screen and it has HDMI on it  the ssds are  proprietary in the 2013 though so get the one with the spec you need for storage they are expensive for MacBooks and the ram doesn't come out so if the screen quality and HDMI port are worth it its a good option. the screens do delaminate is the one thing to watch and they aren't covered anymore .  this is why I went with the 2012 it was a easy to live with computer with no known issues other than user damage.
