Hey guys, i'm trying to build single pc which can run 4 vr headsets, the hardware components i thought of are,

->X299 AORUS Gaming 9

->intel i9 7900X

->4 x Nvidia GTX 1060 GB

-> 64 GB ram

->2tb ssd

->Sonnet Allegro Pro USB 3.0 PCIe card.

 

is this build possible, really need your help guys thanks

You need a lot more cores to run 4 VMs in unRAID. And LTT had a lot of trouble getting it all to work.

 

A 7900X build could run 2 VR VMs a lot easier, then just double that system. That's the actual way to do it. You'd need an extremely expensive PSU and a whole lot of cable adapters to handle the 4 GPUs that would be needed.

The actual way to do this would be with some 2U server chassis and a >21 core processor. Something like a Xeon Gold 6152 or an AMD Epyc 7401P, though both would clock pretty low given the way games work.

 

Also, would a 1060 even handle anything interesting in VR?

yeah if your gonna do 4 VR headsets you really need 4 1080s or 1080TIs or even TITAN Xs

 

i know my 1070 says on the box VR ready, and so goes everything higher end, but i dont think the 1060 does.. i know the 1050 doesnt
