Need help with Windows Server 2016

I have windows server 2016 on my server and I try to change the advanced sharing options within the control panel and once I click Turn On Network Discovery, I click save. But when I go back into check if it took effect it goes back to Turn Off Network Discovery. I have tried a network reset but seems like that didn't help.

 

If you could help me that would be much-appreciated

I'm on a MacBook right now and before i used to connect it to my MacBook and it worked with the IP but now it is suddenly stopped

how are you connecting?

 

This won't affect it connecting with IP at all.

 

can you ping it?

i just use the built in feature in macs to connect to my server

but now it just stopped working

 

Could it be port forwarding bc we got a new router

whats your network layout?

 

How are you connecting? RDP? Telnet? SSH? http?

smb will only work on your local network. You probably want something like nextcloud.

you really shouldn't be doing smb over wan, and if you need to use a vpn.
