So i'm trying to build a network for my place of work to support upwards of 100 people at a time. The network is meant for recreation, primarily for media. I'm looking for recommendations on a server(s) to support large data transfer and large storage capability.

My Rig: | CPU: Core i7-8086k @ 4.9 GHz | Motherboard: Asus Rog Strix z370 | CPU Cooler: (some coolermaster one that probably should have been retired several years ago) | Case: Corsair 570x | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

Server can be big or small. i have extra rack space, or it can be a tower.

It must be separate from the work domain.

the configuration i'm going for is a SAN. but i have never configure one from scratch, so i don't know if i will need a server to act as the domain controller and a separate server to handle all of the storage. there will be 1 48 port cisco router to act as the backbone, 8 - 8 port switches spanning ~ 3000ft, 30+ WAP's.

low ball budget is 10,000.

I am not able to outsource to an service provider because the network will not have any form of internet connectivity.

How do you want to access it? FC? iscsi? What is it being used for? IOPS? Space needed?

why? Normally you want the domain for permissions and accounts

From what i understand of what you say here and previous posts. You want a NAS/Server that can handle up to 100 users? Should the users be using accessing the server remotely? or should it just act as a file storage for all the users?

What data transfers are you looking at?

What kind of capacity?

Many small business and even home users uses freeNAS with Cache drives. But then again it all depends on what transfer speeds you want that can tell how you make the system with thought on capacity and drive count.
