I'm thinking about building a pc and trying to figure out what kind of money I'd be spending as well as what I'd be getting. I'm thinking I'd be getting a 1070 ti (Though I'm not sure I'd really need it) and I'm trying to decide between an i5 8600k, i5 8400, Ryzen 5 2600X or, if I really need it, an i7 8700k. Although I haven't decided that I need one of the CPUs yet. This would be my first build and while I don't plan to overclock, I may venture into that in the future possibly. The pc would be mainly gaming but I still would want to be able to do some creative work on the side. So I'm looking for something that is still fast in games and other stuff, while still being cheap, but if lets say the i7 really is worth the money, then I will find some more money to spend. Thanks in advance.:)

Honestly not too sure what my budget would be exactly, but probably $1000-$1500, possibly more if it’s worth it. And I’m from Canada.

What if he decides to get a 144Hz 1440p monitor? Would an i5 be enough for that. I am asking because I saw a youtube video about i5 not being enough to drive a QHD high refresh rate monitor. Caveat, vid is from 2016 so maybe the six core i5 would do the job?

Also asking for myself : ) My system is on a 4570 and 1070 Ti. I am thinking of buying a Asus PG279Q but if I also have to buy a new MOBO and CPU it becomes a hurdle. I am thinking OP also might want to circumvent this problem. I'll make a new topic if that is more appropriate. Let me know, not trying to hijack : )
