Am i screwed?

Go to solution Solved by Numbafieve,

Without looking everything up its probably one of two things.  The AMD mobile CPUs of old were actually APUs so the "GPU" could just be hot because its the same piece of silicon the CPU is on and windows 10 on a dual core that old is probably giving that little dual core a run for its money.  I could also be wrong and it is a separate CPU and GPU, and they could just be sharing a cooling system.  So if the CPU got hot and judging by those pictures it is, the heat would bleed over via heat pipe and heat up the GPU too.

Also 75C on a GPU full tilt in a laptop isnt that bad.

i got this laptop for free but it has windows 10 on it (when it shouldnt) i knew it sucked but i threw minecraft on it for kicks and it actually ran better then it does on my xbox, but i used hardware monitor to see the thermals and i was kind of shocked im not playing any games and the graphic chipset says its under full load and just in general the thermals are bad i want to put win7 on it and put in a solid state but it hardly seems worth it considering im making silicone toast right now, i wish i new the model number for the laptop but cant find it its an hp notebook with an amd dual core5b908fda65f01_ithinkimscrewed.jpg.5475050e59288b0177e92fc38c167cc2.jpg

yah 120F is nothing for computers, always use Celsius for them.  Its way more common to hear temps in C.  And yes it is generally a good idea to keep it cool if you can.

really you should monitor how your hardware behaves when it reaches its highest temperature, does it throttle back the frequencies? if so then it might be a possibility to open the laptop up and change the thermal paste/pads on the heatsink and see if that helps, or get an external laptop cooler.

I worked on an old compaq laptop with an AMD dual core...might be a similar or even the same model CPU. It would run up to about 90* C (194* F) under moderate load according to HWmonitor (not that great but did okay for what it was being used for). I had to reinstall Windows after a drive failure. It still ran okay and all.

It only ended up eventually dying due to a sudden stop after a free fall.

There's no place like ~

Still, 75C is really not terribly hot for a laptop. Warm? Sure. Concern? Absolutely not.

BTW, 90C = 194F... which is starting to get pretty hot.
