Problem with i7 7700k processor

Hi, I recently built a new pc and I am installing a driver after boot, the driver is called Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface and Driver. It says it supports 7th gen but doesn’t, so would I be ok using 6th for my i7700k.

Because it’s one of the only drivers I can install as all the other ones have come on cd, so would a driver for 6th gen be fine for 7th gen?

What I don’t get is it says this in the description of the download but there is no 7th gen option

I mean are you going to use it? because it's not required for anything.

All you need are drivers from your motherboard manufacturer.

A CPU does not have drivers.

 

If you won't be using the R.A.P.I.D. storage feature, then you don't even need the driver installed.

Yes I am, I need them in order to set up windows 10.

You don't need it to install or use windows 10, it's just like a RAID thing, or it's an SSD caching thing.

There are no drivers for a CPU.

There is BIOS updates for the motherboard, so it better supports the CPU.

There drivers for the motherboard, graphics card, and other add-on cards.

 

RAPID drivers are for the MOTHERBOARD.

The SATA ports communicate through the motherboard CHIPSET (e.g. the Z170 chipset, or Z270 chipset, B250, etc).

Guess who designed / made the chipsets for those motherboards? Intel.

 

It even says, the drivers are for the SATA and AHCI/RAID controller.

Yes, you should be okay, since 6th generation a 7th generation are both from the same micro-architecture.

7th generation 'Kabylake' is refresh / revised version of the 6th generation 'Skylake'.

 

But like I said before, which motherboard are you using?

ASUS / Gigabyte / MSi / AsRock should have all the correct drivers on your motherboard's product support page.
