I have been wondering for a while why SSD are always 2.5"? Wouldn't it make sense to make them 3.5" to fit standard and use the extra space to make them hold more information?

trust me.. space isn't the issue.. those are 2TB SSD's.

the problem is the cost, 2TB already has an insane price, there's no point at all of increasing the capacity, no one would buy them (excluding servers ofc, they already use high capacity SSD's)

Image result for samsung 4tb ssd inside

and this is the 4TB SSD, it's not much bigger, but the price is 900$, that's as much as a whole PC, they would be losing lots of money if they made higher capacity SSD's and no one bought them.

Image result for old HDD sizes

Everything gets smaller as time goes by.  The form factor for 3.5 inch drives will eventually go away just like the old technology of yesterday....

R.I.P. 5 1/4 inch drives, what is a disk again?  Who knows.
