Ram upgrade benefit

Zaydovaah

Hello everyone! I own an Asus K751LJ laptop. I mainly game on it, though I have to lower lots of things for smooth gameplay on latest releases.

My specs :

i5-5200U 2.20Ghz,

8Gigs ram,

Nvidia 920M with 2Gigs memory and Intel HD 5500

Windows 10 Home édition.

My question is how much improvement would I get by increasing the ram from 8 to 12Gigs and would it be worth it? Or am I deadly limited by my GPU / CPU power?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to LTT forums !!!

It is not worth it .

your GPU and CPU are aging (and they were already low end)

I suggest that you upgrade to something like a dell g3.

Well you must first identify your problem.

If you are running out of memory before your CPU/GPU even got maxed out then yes upgrading RAM will increase the performance but if its not then its useless

Behold the power of Chuck Norris the forbidden one.

8GB is enough for most games .

You are purely GPU limited in most games.

You will have to lower your settings quite a bit to get a good experience.

Just easy to check: press ctrl+alt+del and see your ram usage, if its like 6gb while you gaming its ok, ram problems came when you are full (8gb) and hdd/ssd is taken instead(waaaaay slower) , if not you wont benefit from more ram, ram usage is like cpu usage ,80%...ok 90%....ok 99%.....ok , 100%->slow pc.

That laptop is not going to last you any long playing new videogames,  there are now cheap laptops with ryzen 1700 + 1050ti/1060/1070 (depends on your budget) but I saw for 750$ ryzen 1700 with a 1060 .

Case: Corsair 760T  |  Psu: Evga  650w p2 | Cpu-Cooler : Noctua Nh-d15 | Cpu : 8600k  | Gpu: Gygabyte 1070 g1 | Ram: 2x8gb Gskill Trident-Z 3000mhz |  Mobo : Aorus GA-Z370 Gaming K3 | Storage : Ocz 120gb sata ssd , sandisk 480gb ssd , wd 1gb hdd | Keyboard : Corsair k95 rgb plat. | Mouse : Razer deathadder elite | Monitor: Dell s2417DG (1440p 165hz gsync) & a crappy hp 24' ips 1080p | Audio: Schiit stack + Akg k712pro + Blue yeti.

The GPU there is bottlenecking the entire system my friend.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Thank you! been following the YouTube channel and it led me here xD

True those are not great lol. Thinking about upgrading but can't yet, you know, for reasons :3

I checked the task manager and usually, it's first my disk that goes 100% (1TB HDD), then processor and graphic memory follow, ram seems to hold fine...

Soo definitely not worth upgrading...

Thank you all for your answers, you're great :D
