Graphics Card Sag

So I bought this MSI Graphics Card Bolster as kind of a precautionary accessory for the MSI 2080 Trio that I pre-ordered. I hear that the newer cards are pretty hefty and tend to sag. Anyway, I tried it with my current card (MSI 1080 Gaming X), which has minor sag, and I noticed that the GPU temperatures increased when the support held the card at more or less a 90 degree angle to the floor (ie as straight as possible, no sag). And when I let the card sag just a touch, the temps returned to normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like it has cause it to have a bad contact with the die since straightening out. You can reapply the paste in it's supported position to see if it improves.

That makes sense. I actually reapplied paste a little while ago because the temps were a bit high (it turned out that MSI did a poor job applying the paste) and my temps dropped over 10 degrees afterwards.

For now, it's fine. But I'll keep this in mind for my new card. Thanks!

@jayneisagirlsname

probably the screws to attach the heatsink are looser because of the sag, so when you straightened the card the die is further away from the heatsink, so try tightening those.

You may wanna check the fan connector for a short or anything if you get the chance (or fans spinning / not spinning). Those can go wonky and are rather brittle / break easily - especially after taking em apart to reapply your TIM

I'll keep that in mind if I continue to run into problems. I just tested my card with Gears 4 ( a rather demanding game) and the temp was about 62 degrees on ultra settings, so things seem to be working ok now. But I appreciate your input!
