Benchmarking Grade Sheet

Jtalk4456

With the news of the 2080 scores and all the talk about ray tracing, I'm left in the position I'm always at where I don't benchmark really, I've never had a PC worth testing like that. So when they say the 2080 got a 12000 score, that means little to nothing to me. With benchmarking such an integral part of evaluating new hardware, I'd love to see a rough example of a gradesheet for the most common benchmarks. So like 1000-3000 is pitiful, 3000-5000 is playable with low settings, and 6000+ is a good score for most games on medium settings. Something to that effect where someone not familiar with the benchmarks can get a rough idea at a glance. Or even score it with a computer, where a 5th gen i5 and a 1060 should get around this much.

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

this should hopefully give you a bit of an estimate

that's a start, but i need to understand what kind of programs it can run and at what settings given a certain score.

Free game benchmarks, and benchmark software in general usualy has a database of scores. At the very least you can find what other cards get by just googleing it.

Is good guide imo. Once you understand the performance of a select few cards, you can then extrapolate a rough estimate of other cards performance bassed on that list.

So for example, if you grab a 980ti run a few games and game bencmarks (or look them up), then check its position in the above link list, you can roughly guess what you would get with other cards.

Ofc most cards will have specific benchmarks available online anyway, so u can selectivly search. but for a general quick glimps, that linked site is a good place to look once you have a general understaning of the kind of performance a handfull of cards can achieve in a select free games.

EDIT:

Its also usfull when som1 say somthing like "i want to build a system with a GTX 1060, but i cant afford a GTX 1060, any recommendations?"  using that site you can find the 1060 and look at all the cards that are roughly around the same perfomance, and thus you can say "well try find a used 970 or 780ti or even a 980"
