GTX 1080 low performance?

Howdy. I recently purchaced a GTX 1080 Palit Dual OC, but i seem to be having issues with it. I don't really know if it's just me or the GPU but i seem to get low FPS. 

 

Here are my specs - 

 

GTX 1080 Palit Dual OC

i7 7700k

8 GB DDR4 

120 GB SSD

1 TB HDD

H110M-R Motherboard

 

I've run a few benchmarks and they seem to perform like my previuos 980 TI. 

Any ideas whats wrong?

That's a ballsy move, running a 7700K on a board without ANY VRM cooling at all....

 

Monitor your CPU and GPU usage and clock speeds closely during benchmarks. When you see a big CPU usage or clock speed drop, you're facing VRM throttling.

My CPU usage and the clock speed do not drop, the tempratures on the GPU and CPU don't go above 70. There is no big CPU usage.

is GPU usage at or near 100%?

No, usally 40 - 60%

Then that's why your performance is lower than expected. The GPU is being held back. What's the CPU's clock speed in game/benchmark? If it's less than 4.2GHz at any point, you're looking at a throttling issue.

Right, i played some GTA V, and my usage was around 70 - 100 Depending where i was, i had a 60 fps cap, thats why it was around 40%.

What temp does your card run. Those palit cards run hot from what i remember!

Around 60 - 70 load / 30 - 40 Idle

Here I ran the GPU - Z Render test. Does it look like Thermal Throttle?
