Posted September 3, 2018 Hello, I own a galaxy On7. At present it runs on android lollipop. It has got an upgrade to android marshmello. Should I upgrade to marshmello? Most of the reviews are saying that the latest update for this phone is causing battery drainThanks Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/967824-android-comparision/ Share on other sites
 Posted September 3, 2018 If you're satisfied with the Lollipop version then don't. I would actually prefer better battery life than just a few more enhancements or features. And with a low-end specs like that phone, i'd rather not upgrade if the current version is stable enough. Posted September 3, 2018 Its not just about stability though, its about security patches. Also a lot of people complain about battery drain but do not perform a factory reset to see if that fixes it. I'm not saying there aren't issues, but there are literally people complaining of battery drain issues after every update on every phone model, and far more people who have zero problems so naturally aren't posting about it on forums. Agree thus why Android One is the best option for lower end phones with it's monthly security updates. But getting stuck at marshmallow with no further updates seems to be rather pointless to update. Security patches is important especially if you are connecting to public wifi and out and about, especially the bluetooth and wifi vulnerability. I reason because people complaining is because you need to let the phone settle after a few days. If you flash alot of rom you will know, battery life is pretty shit straight after you update your rom/flash new rom. It will settle after a few day, if you really still can't handle the drain go flash custom rom/kernel ask around on fourms there is plenty of people that will help you improve your battery drain. The main reason for battery drain on android is social apps, where most people have at least a soical app installed. Have you look into custom roms? I was able to bring back my nexus 5 from the dead and battery life is basically what it was like back when I got the phone. It running Oreo, I mean mostly likely there is pretty sure there is a few active developer on Note 7 developing roms. As your phone is basically out of warranty so you shouldn't really matter if you unlock bootloader. 55 minutes ago, mikedrewsmy said: Agree thus why Android One is the best option for lower end phones with it's monthly security updates. I already check phone "unlockablity" in term of bootloader and recovery even If I won't do it first day I received the phone but a couple year down the line it becomes handy. Magical Pineapples
