Hey guys I'm trying to figure out were to plug in my fans into my mobo. I've plugged in my AIO to the CPU_fan.

Then I have my 3 fans at the top of the case which goes into a splitter but im not so sure were to plug into the mobo

I also have my rear fan is well which i need to plug in somewhere. I can see the pins but im not sure if they need to go into a specific part?

The motherboard it self is : asus - rog strix z370-e

Manual for mobo : https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-E-GAMING/HelpDesk_Manual/ (Page 16)

My parts are : https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xBwBzY

I just need to find out if i can plug them in anywhere really :

As im thinking of plugging in the 3 at the top to the CHA_FAN1 near the 24 pin cable and the rear fan maybe at the bottoom if the cable reaches? near the USB 2.0 but it says its called m_2 fan which im not sure if i can plug into or not

Thanks

What fans are you using?

The m_2 fan header can be used like any other fan header.

Moved to Air Cooling.

Just the ones that came with my case, I have my AIO ones to the CPu Cooler

I moved the 3 fans which came with the case to the top , put that into a 3 way fan spliter and need to plug that into somewhere

And then i just have my rear fan left to plug in somewhere is well

I hope that makes sense?

I've already gave u instructions yesterday

Quote

fan.png

Plug the header from the pump straight to AIO_PUMP
Plug the rear exhaust fan to the CHA_FAN2

You can relocate the rest of the 120 fans to the top of the case, hook them up to CPU__FAN, CHA_FAN & CPU_OPT

The problem is The aio pump is suppose to go to the CPU header not the one u said  to montior the fans i just wanted to know for the case fans , but it seems i can put them anywhere so should be fine

Mounting the rad at the top as exhaust would be better for cooling the graphics card which is more sensitive to heat. I'd recommend doing that and leaving the stock case fans as is. As for the case fans, you can plug them into whichever motherboard fan header is most convenient with a splitter -- rear fan into cha_fan 2, front fans into cha_fan1, the pump into aio_pump or cpu_fan, and the AIO fans into the cooler's splitter.

Doesn't really matter which header you plug it into. They're functionally the same and just labelled for easier organization.

Perfect thanks , however i've decided to go with the front as it seems people think its a better idea, it looks better to me and also i watched bitwit video on it and the cpu temps do drop so hopefully should be fine , i moved the fans anyway just need 2 plug them in now

Actually it's better to have the pump at the AIO_PUMP header because it's going to run at 100% all the time.

AIO pumps works and last longer if run at full load.

Technically if you plug the pump into cpu fan/aio pump header, if the pump dies then the system turns off due to cpu fan error.

If you plug the pump into system fan slot, then the cpu slowly heats up until cpu temp error, which is worse for the cpu.

But the other fans can connect where ever, no matter.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

I'm sorry but that must be stupid? I dont really wanna hear a jet engine near me, I tested it, it worked fine when i plugged into the CPU_Fan, can montior temps fine and set my own shit so its fine i guess

Having the rad at the front would improve cpu temps at the cost of the graphics card temps which is arguably worse. Also, having the top fans as intake wouldn't be very balanced or efficient, having some exhaust and some intake at the top would recycle heat, and having it as exhaust would make the furthest front fan at the top pretty useless or possibly detrimental.

I don't think it's gonna be audible. But that's just me. My H115i Pro has been super silent.

Well i have the 2 as front intake , then 4 at the back as exhaust, will lower the rpm to fit the two at the front and i think that should be fine, even if i have one completely turned off , i might as well put it in the build , make no diff

Thats the video which showed the theory out and with the i7-8700k always getting hot i think its a good idea

The difference is that the graphics card would probably run warmer which is arguably more important than the cpu running warmer since it's not as sensitive to temps as the graphics card. It's fine if you want to prioritize the cpu temps but I don't see the practicality in that.

Someone's already made up their mind, I'd rather not say anything anymore or it'll may end up as a stupid idea to him.

Ye i do agree but will test with this system, if the card seems to be way 2 hot then its fine , will swap it out , but i think it should be fine, i dont plan to overclock it in anyway so hopefully no problem, plus in Sweden its always cold as hell so that will help i guess

Temps will be fine either way but having the graphics card run cooler would mean a quieter system, more room for oc'ing, and having it last longer.

I 100% understand , but with his system the gpu also ran the coolest with the front Rad, again it could be his sytem , his airflow 100% but i guess i just need to test and see what i get and try both ways out

Bitwit's results are actually strange in that it doesn't match with other tests found online. In most cases, a front mounted rad intake results in higher graphics card temps than a top exhaust.

Well like that article said , it will be different for every case really , its just about finding what works for you. Everyone is using different cases, different overclock numbers, different fans etc. so its not universal if that makes sense. You just need to test it and see, I placed mine at the front 1-i saw the video on it  and 2- i was on the nzxt reddit page and it seems with this case and people who have had the same build as me said that the front intake was a better overall. Again will need to test this but for now we will see
