Upgrading

Hi

I'm looking to upgrade to 8th gen officially I'm currently still on a 3rd gen i5 with 12GB RAM and GTX660TI so upgrade is need.

My build I was think of doing will be as follows:

ASUS ROG STRIX B360-F GAMING

Intel Coffee Lake i5-8600

TEAM NIGHT HAWK RGB DDR4-3000 16GB Kit

ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 Ti ROG Strix Advanced 8GB

Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro 650w

But should I buy the GTX 1070ti first and run it on my 3rd gen system and then buy everything else one by one or start with the motherboard, CPU and RAM and then run my GTX 660ti with that?

I'm not to sure which way to go with this.

HELP IS NEEDED!!

I think if you run the 1070 Ti with the 3th gen I'm almost 100% sure that it will be a bottleneck... Now the question is: How much of a bottleneck will it be?

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

Get the GPU first and crank up the settings.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

Personally I would upgrade everything but the GPU first and wait for the complete new series of Nvidia GPUs to be released. Even if the 2060 won't be cheaper and/or better performing than the 1070ti, the prices should be shifted in some way or another to make room for the 2050 (ti) and 2060, possibly making the last gen cards slightly cheaper. (Ignore this if you get a substantial discount obviously)

I'm not sure really hey.

I don't think it will be to bad but I might be completely wrong.

I have the core i5 3450.

True I was more leaning in towards getting the full system first before the GPU.

Do you think the GTX 2060 would out do the GTX 1070ti?

Course if that is the case then maybe upgrading the GPU last would be better and keep my good old trusty GTX660TI running for now.

I don't know how the 2060 will perform, but I expect (based on absolutely no evidence) that it will perform somewhere between the 1070 and 1070ti. That is why I am very curious to see what will happen with GPU prices once they launch. If it performs like either the 1070 or 1070 ti and costs the same or less it would render them useless, if they make it more expensive it will make the 2060 obsolete.

Very true I guess.

I mean it has to be more powerful than the GTX 1060  and the GTX 1070 is about 39% better than the 1060 so for all we know they only make  GTX 2060 like 10%-25% better than the GTX 1060.

This would mean that the GTX 1070ti would still be a stronger card.

I don't know what to expect really.

Course I mean the 10 cards vs the 9 cards was a big jump in performers, I just wonder how much the jump will be this time.

^_^

I expect a smaller jump. Last time a 1060 was roughly a 980, so I expect the performance of the 2060 to be between the at least 1070 and at most between 1070ti and 1070. It may not matter in the end, but if you need to upgrade everything but not at the same time it could be beneficial to start with everything but the GPU.

Why do you need to upgrade?

Are you playing game that currently is not performing well with your setup?

Non-gaming software you use is not performing well with you current setup?

CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770
GPU: TNT2 M64 / Radeon 9000 / MX 440-SE / 7300GT / Radeon 4670 / GTS 250 / Radeon 7950 / 660 Ti

I really just want a new system. I mostly only really play csgo. and epsort games.

An i5 is more than enough for esports titles.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go with a GPU upgrade now and then save for a CPU upgrade at a later time.

CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770
GPU: TNT2 M64 / Radeon 9000 / MX 440-SE / 7300GT / Radeon 4670 / GTS 250 / Radeon 7950 / 660 Ti
