I have been a pc enthusiast for a while now but I have never really worried about routers and that kind of thing before because I have always used a wired connection. But one of my friends has just bought a computer and he cannot run 300ft of cable across his house so if needs to get a wireless card. He has a Westell 7500 router, but the thing I was wondering is does it matter what type of wireless card he gets? The one I was looking at (http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-300Mbps-Wireless-Adapter-RNX-N250PCe/dp/B006WWMZSK/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1388677773&sr=8-11&keywords=wireless+card) seems like it would work with the router but I have no idea, I do not want to buy it and not work so I would just like some advice on if this works or if not which one I should get that does work.

DONT BUY A WIRELESS CARD! 300ft would never end well :D, tell him to buy a power line adapter, I personally have them and I love them, you get a wired connection using your electrical wire.

A house that's longer than 300ft? Suuuure.

Anyway, if it is true, than you're going to need something a little more powerful than your typical consumer router. I'd recommend sending the cable into the roof, have a switch at the halfway point and run another cable to complete the journey. This would be ideal since you're bound to have more than one room without wireless coverage. I would recommend these for access points.

no if he wants a wired connection buy powerlines, or buy fibre optic converters that way you wont need access points

The biggest problem with Powerline is that if you have the adapters running on two different electrical circuits, you don't get any benefits whatsoever and the connection would become unstable and potentially slower than a slightly weaker wifi signal.

I like @Darren's suggestion, it allows for expansion in the future and still keep speeds up.

Fibre optic converters would not be useful at all, not only are they expensive but there is no need for them.
