Currently this is my setup https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KXfjmG, It has recently become useless now that I started college. Previously I would use it mainly to search online but I see myself using over 20 tabs (first world problems I know) and the computer starts to get slow. Surprising to me my pc is being bottlenecked by my ram. I am wondering where I should go with this if to scrap everything excluding I assume the power supply and the hard drive. Please give me suggestions with what I should get the budget is flexible but no I can't afford a 1070 and I don't really game at all anymore so this will be a purely productivity based pc with hopefully potential upgradability as I am studying engineering and chances are that I will need to upgrade the machine later on down the line. Please give me feedback and suggestions :).

Get a ssd

8gb should be fine, but get some more, hunt for used aswell

Id look for a used xeon, there cheaper than the i5s and i7s and use the same board. Look for a e3 1230 v3(basically i7) or a e3 1220 v3(think i5)

I want a new one with the exception of hard drive and power supply and possibly case because that is hidden away.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/W8LHq4 Thats  Ryzen CPU, good for what you need it for. 16Gbs of DDR4 2x8 3200Ghz sticks since you will need the ram and Ryzen Cpus perform best with faster ram speed. I left the case for you to pick.

That looks great is there a big difference between the 2600x and the 1500x?

I would stick with your current platform.

You just need another 8gb Ram for those pesky Chrome tabs.

A $40 SSD will make your system a lot snappier, and you could upgrade CPU, but for browsing an i3 should be fine.

That sounds like a valid temporary solution. I cannot find my particular ram I think I will just need 16gb because when I do find another 8 it is at an unreasonable price.

The ram I linked is the cheapest ram I could find, $75 for the 8GB stick. Unless you only have two RAM slots on your motherboard, you can just add it in alongside your 2x8 kit.

The SSD is $40 and probably the best upgrade you could make.

Even if you stuck with the 8G of Ram. When you run out of memory and start to load off a drive, it would be a lot faster than an HDD.

Would the fact that they are running at different speeds and different brands make a difference or will it be fine? Yeah I think I am going to order the SSD right now.

As far as I know you can mix and match Ram speeds/brands with no issue. When you buy a kit you get "Dual Channel" ram, two sticks that work in tandem, but in reality it makes little or no difference. I'm not going to pretend to be the authority on this, would someone else like to chime in?

EDIT: Of course make sure your getting the right RAM for your platform, DDR3 VS DDR4.

Yes the DDR3 is self evident to me but I heard somewhere that it was better to run Quad channel than to run 2 different kinds of ram each running dual channel. Anyone else please do chime in.
