NAS issuses.

Hi, I followed this guide (https://lifehacker.com/5919558/turn-an-old-computer-into-a-networked-backup-streaming-or-torrenting-machine-with-ubuntu) but when I try and log into the share on my windows 10 PC it says access denied

Check user permissions on both systems

Errm...if you don't know how to manage permissions on an OS and a NAS device, then you need to read up, the concept is far to long and involved for here.

Its win 10 that is having problems, my laptop witch is running Ubuntu can access it fine.

You need to map a drive in windows, and specify the username/password used on your linux system that has permissions.

 

Or CHMOD 777 the directory, which is generally advised against (for obvious reasons).

samba will do the mapping for user and group permissions in it's config.

 

Did you add the user on the Linux system? smbpasswd -a user

I am certain I did but I will check.

For a simple setup it's pretty easy.. for a corporate setup things get complicated fast though. Active Directory is a train wreck.
