recording for a whole year

Go to solution Solved by 18358414,

is this for some kind of security system or just for lulz?

Depending on your codec, for 720p you might have a CBR encoder at 1500kbps (about 11MB per minute of recording) or you could have a CQP encoder which would be much more efficient in a lack of motion which would have a variable bitrate depending on the motion on screen (perhaps as low as 200kbps or 1.5MB per minute of recording, but maybe as high as 11000kbps in instances of high motions or 82.5MB per minute of recording).

A lot depends on the level of quality and what kind of codec you're using, but using these numbers you would look at a minimum of 788GB for a cqp recorder at 200kbps average to as high as 5.7 terabytes at the CBR 1500kbps.

Personally, I have a motion detection software running that only saves the interesting stuff so I don't waste space on a static image.

Hello there
If I wanted to record for a whole year or two 2 years, how much space do I need to have.

Sound? Video? Resolution? Framerate?

We can't answer without knowing what you're recording

That's an F in the profile pic

If I have to explain every detail, I won't talk to you.  If you answer a question with what can be found through 10 seconds of googling, you've contributed nothing, as I assure you I've already considered it.

What a world we would be living in if I had to post several paragraphs every time I ask a question.
