Bought a new Dell Inspiron 3565, AMD A6 9200, 500gb drive. Low end yes, not for gaming.

Dell says this machine has 4 gb of DDR4-2400 memory. Bios says it is 1866 memory.

Called Dell Technical Support, they access computer across internet and verify bios says 1866 memory speed.

Dell’s Official Response...motherboard can only run memory at 1866....it may have 2400 speed they advertise...but can not use it.

Run an episode on Youtube Linus of what you think of PC Manufacturers doing such a thing.

Won’t bother returning it. HP version of this 15.6 screen and A6 processor clearly states 1866 memory speed, HP version only takes 1 memory stick versus this takes 2.

I paid very little for it. Will do what I need. Just false advertising on Dell’s part my only gripe.

Technically its not false advertising if they were listing the specifications of the RAM rather than what it actually runs at.  Though granted its rather sneaky and underhanded.

When I got a 7567 in the dell outlet it was all over the place that I would get a free copy of rocket league -didnt specify that outlet purchases did not qualified. I got the laptop and never got the code. I was bothering them a solid 3 days (said I would demand them as they committed false advertising) got some calls and they issued a 80 dollar Dell coupon which I used to get a nice backpack I price matched from other sites.

A little sketchy, yeah, but is it really any different from Corsair (or any other OEM) advertising 3200MHz memory knowing full well that the memory actually runs at 2133MHZ, and getting to 3200 is contingent on a stable overclock on the right motherboard?

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Hi, I am a newbie in PC building and currently planning to build one. I am looking for a 3200MHz memory and read this post. On Corsair website, I checked the spec for DDR4 PC4-25600, it mentioned that the tested speed is 3200MHz, but the SPD Speed is 2133MHz, even on PC4-36800 (4600MHz), the SPD Speed is only 2133MHz. What does it mean? Does the high tested speed can only be achieved by overclock?

Thank you.

Yes. High-clocked RAM typically runs at 2133MHz or 2400MHz out of the box (for DDR4), and relies upon an XMP or DOCP overclock profile to hit the rated speed. The speed on the label is basically the manufacturer-warranted overclock capability.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
