Hey thanks a lot for the help! No need to make the script as I would rather just leave it and open Spotify manually rather than install a hot key macro program as well as have you go through the trouble of making a script.

I was actually able to find a fix for this on this site here from user 1223009620:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Keyboard-media-launch-button/td-p/1736288

Basically had to change the default app for mp3 to Spotify.

Thanks again for your help. image.png.9fc1c27685a9dc00b2f19ba05860d3ef.png

Hello, I have a keyboard with the standard layout of media keys (see below) on the top and they all work as intended.

However when I use the "music" media function key on my keyboard it opens Groove music.

How can I change it so that it opens Spotify instead of groove music. Tried to fiddle around with the default app settings and can't find any way to change it.

Is this even possible? image.png.ecffe6a9e362715bbe9a2b02469bdf7f.png

Which model is that?
If you're not sure, there should be a model number at the bottom side of the keyboard.

Hey I don't think it's a keyboard issue as much as a Spotify issue. Changing which app opens from the shortcut can be changed in default apps setting in Win10 but since Spotify isn't an app which is associated with ".mp3" files it isn't on the list of programs which I can change it to. If that makes sense.

Maybe there's a program that could help? I use x-mouse to change the functions of my extra mouse buttons, maybe there is one for keyboards with media keys?

Try having a look through here, there are a bunch of freewares that claim to be able to control keyboard functions (mouse too)

Here's a quick dirty script i came up with:

##Save as media_load_spotify.ahk excluding this line

*Launch_Media::
Run Spotify
return

After you have installed AutoHotKey, you should be able to run this script and press the music button and spotify will load.

You may want to try automating the script, such as adding it to startup or something but ill leave you to decide!

old but adjusted this script to fit in windows 11

Quote

#SingleInstance,Force
*Launch_Media::
Run spotify
process, close, wmplayer.exe
Return

There are several ways to make a script (or any program) launch automatically every time you start your PC. The easiest is to place a shortcut to the script in the Startup folder:

  1. Find the script file, select it, and press Ctrl+C.
  2. Press Win+R to open the Run dialog, then enter shell:startup and click OK or Enter. This will open the Startup folder for the current user. To instead open the folder for all users, enter shell:common startup (however, in that case you must be an administrator to proceed).
  3. Right click inside the window, and click "Paste Shortcut". The shortcut to the script should now be in the Startup folder.
