The half life series are a huge hit from what I know of. I think FPS and strategy are the top 2.

Civilization V is a beautiful game

Apparently the most played game currently is League of Legends. It's probably followed next by WOW in its prime. With PC fps games it's more like CS 1.6 :D

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

google is your friend on this 1...

there are a few lists about but the most comprehensive 1 i found was here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games

seems its the sims 2 and sims that hold the top spot with 20 and 16million copies sold respectively on pc. the most recent game to be added to the list is diablo 3 with 12million and minecraft with 10 million sales. ranking 3 and 7 again respectively.

the 1 stat i do find odd is that wow has 13 million players but has sold only 4.5 million copies(retail d2d and steam sales aint counted for some reason on these lists.)

For wow a lot of players are from china where they are not actually buying a copy of the game right?

They have around 8.5 million players now i think but around a half of that are from China who pay per hour because subscription is forbidden there.

I'm sure Team Fortress is still in the top 20 as it's now Free to play but certainly worldwide it's League of legends, another F2P but more in the DOTA2 style (but not really the same pattern)

Battlefield 3 is a great game on PC, and a ton of people play it. Although, I'd have to say that LoL is the most played game atm.
