are you getting 60fps on your current setup? If so wait longer for the next gen GPUs like RX 680 or RTX 2060

If you can use the max settings in DOTA 2 with your current rig with no performance loss and you're truly playing DOAT 2 only, I really don't see why you need to buy a new video card. Remember DOAT 2 is a CPU intensive game.

If you plan to play something else besides DOTA 2 that's a totally different story. :D

CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770
GPU: TNT2 M64 / Radeon 9000 / MX 440-SE / 7300GT / Radeon 4670 / GTS 250 / Radeon 7950 / 660 Ti

My opinion is : upgrade when you need to, when you gpu don't have enough power to run the games you play at the settings you want.

When this time will come you will know where the gpu market is at and if  new releases are close.

You will also save money over the long run if you upgrade only when needed.

Your MB, CPU, MEM looks up to date for that kinda workload.

And when you go for a new GPU you will notice it right away i still believe a 650 ti boost 2gb will do 60FPS on high.

But you should make sure that is does if you aren't hitting 60FPS anymore its time too upgrade.

But if you want more than you have now.

Buy a new card and green or red team doesn't really matter you will get better performance.

using  High settings   at 60fps max   when  limited  action are beeinn done I get  58-60fps
during semi heavy team fights  ill  see  some dips in the  46-48fps  region
hard  teamfights  proly  low  40s  with ocasional high 30s
I just tested  it watching  a  replay
Should I turn the  graphic down( at medium its basicly the same fps)?  I can also  enable more than 60fps  ( which I get  when not in teamfights  i can reach 90fps)
vsync?
should I get a new monitor  ( currently have a   7 years old 24'' 60hz samsung monitor)

Resolution is also something to consider, and has a considerable impact on performance. Ultimately, the decision is between lowering quality settings and/or resolution or finding a new GPU you can afford that allows you to play without compromises.

$300 CDN for an 8GB 580 is a good price for a good card. If you've got the spare spending money, it would be a huge boost in performance for you. However, if Dota 2 is all you play and you don't plan on getting into big AAA titles to really push your hardware, a card like the 1050 Ti or 560 should be less expensive options that do the trick. To answer your question more directly - if your goal is to play Dota 2 with high settings and resolutions at a solid 60 fps, then yes, you should upgrade your GPU. The rest of your specs are just fine. Just keep in mind that a 580 will draw more power than a 650 Ti, so make sure your PSU can handle the upgrade, as well.

As for getting a new monitor, if your current one is 1080p and works fine, there wouldn't be much reason to unless you wanted to get a 1440p or 4k panel.

Yeah, if the 580 is what you're set on, you won't be disappointed at that price. I say go for it! Be sure to keep us updated with how it goes if you do ^^

odly enough i found a rx 570 4gb for 233$ on amazon which is 60$ less than anywhere else

That'd probably be one of the best deals you could find, then. The 570 is only about 15% slower than the 580, so if you could get it at a significantly lower price, that may be the best thing to go for.

No it really wouldn't be much of an upgrade to go to a 1060. Your issue is the default settings in the drivers unfortunately. You can easily fix your issue by using some custom settings. The only downside will be some additional fan noise, but if you can deal with that, you won't feel the need for a new card. First of with any version of the Radeon drivers since Wattman was introduced you don't need 3rd part tweakers such as Afteburner or Trixx. In fact the mess things up if you use them and also use Wattman. Uninstall them if you have them installed. Now in Radeon Settings go to "Global Wattman" under the gaming tab then global settings. First give your card a bit more of a power ceiling this adds much need stability, it is the lack of the extra ceiling that actually makes the cards throttle more. To do this, below the fan and temp settings find the "Power Limit" Slider, it is a horizontal slider that moves left or right and at default is centered. Slide it all the way to the right to increase it to it's max, usually either 25 or 50 but could be something else, regardless move it to the right to its max. Next fix the heat issues causing throttling. This is not an over volt and is still in the normal range of the card. This also does not mean it always runs with that power, it is dynamic still and only uses it, when needed. It only gives it a higher power ceiling and this is often needed and preferential to throttling for most gamers. On the fan settings. Increase the Min up wherever the last speed is just before you don't really hear it, raise the max as high as it will go. This doesn't mean it will always run at max, it is dynamic, you are only giving it more available cooling when needed.  On the temp sliders slide the min up to kick on much sooner and set the max to about 68 degrees. I think you will find this gives you a much better experience.

I think you're misunderstanding their post. They have a 650 Ti Boost and were wondering if they should upgrade to an RX 580.

This would be a decently significant upgrade. Obviously things aren't unplayable for them with the 650 Ti, but if they'd like to game at a smooth 60 fps at max settings, an upgrade would do the trick.

You are correct! Thanks for the correction. I did see the second post and was thinking it was the OP with the RX 480. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, if they do decide to buy the new card, they could still use your information to help optimize its performance!
