I use Winamp since it has a file converter and it's already my music listening app.

Foobar2K has a similar thing: https://www.foobar2000.org/encoderpack

If you're looking for a standalone app I can't really help you there. :/

There isn't any magic one which would have everything. Not one that I would recommend. There are paid software and crapware which hopefully have died. There are several online services, but those usually have limits for filesize or number of files.

For audio Audacity is good one. But for batch conversion, Foobar with addons is really powerful.

You could check CloudConvert ( https://cloudconvert.com/)for a Cloud solution wich won't impact performance

I have to tell you converting files is never easy even more so with audio, and video. The reason for this is many software manufacturers want you only to use their software. While they do give you options most of them time to save out to a universal format often the proprietary format will work better in the software in question. This is most often the case in the audio, and video industry with jutebox software such as apple iTunes. It has improved over time though. I just wanted to give a little background before I suggest a program. In your case I would suggest a program called AnyVideoConverter This will help you convert just about any video, and audio needs even turning video into mp3. It dose cost for the license, but it is not to pricey..

I assume that you're talking about music files. AIMP has really good converter (multi-threaded) and easy to use.

For different file types there are other converters (for images - IrfanView has very good conversion options).
