What is the best CPU for overclocking, one that can overclock the most? Im not looking for a new, expensive cpu, but something I might be able to find used for not a ton of money, and have some fun with. Thoughts?

I assume you don't mean practical performance?

FX Chips can take whatever voltage you throw at them, and still have the world record for highest clocks I think.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I mean, maybe some practical performance. If its stable, and better than my current i3-2100, I could use it.

What FX chips are the best for overclocking?

Fx-9590 but to cool that properly you need at least dry ice acetone or ln2.

for overclocking, used 4570k i5 should be nice. Or i5-4670k etc. any 3rd ir 4th gen i5 with a k.

FX are horrible for real world performance now.

What's your Budget/Country for stuff?

if  you can a fx get like a 8300, most of the 8 cores oc about the same;. 9590 will probably oc the best, but there isn't much headroom. I got my fx 8300 to about 5.05 with a car raditor.

I am in US. I don't want to spend too much, especially in case I break something. I wouldent want to spend more than $100 on the CPU.

Ill check ebay for some FX chips. Look pretty cheap. Any ideas on what motherboard?

I might be able to ghetto rig a water cooling system together... I have a spare 2x180mm radiator, but sold the rest of my water cooling stuff. I have a submersible pond pump though...

Don't waste any money on FX, get a good PC first and foremost.

What's your GPU?

You're going to want to find an i7 2/3/4 K CPU, with a Z whatever chipset with a decent VRM so it can overclock if you're trying to upgrade on the "cheap"

If you just want a modern platform get like an ASrock Pro 4 + R3 2200G + 8GBs of DDR4

Why not a G3258,you can get one for like 50 bucks

That would be a downgrade for CPU performance, well 4 threads to 2 threads anyways, still requires the more expensive board to OC anyways.
