Hi there,

I am a new member and am in need of some help. Recently I purchased a Intel i340-T4 for my home NAS. However a part of the card catches on the end of the pci slot (the part circled in the picture). This means that the card cannot fit into place. Would it be possible to cut the tab off, or would I be better off if I modified a x1 slot to take the card. Or is there some other solution.

Thanks in advance.

other than a different heatsink it is the same as any other i340-t4,

Intel says that it is compatible with x16.

Most PCIe cards have that tab - I attached some examples. If that slot doesn't work with that card, chances are it won't work with nearly any expansion card, which seems kinda counter-intuitive.

Are there any board components right up against the front of the slot? What motherboard is it?

Spoiler

Intel states that it is compatible with 4x 8x 16x pci ports. because y motherboard is proprietary then there is not enough space  between the slot and the pci bracket. so the  card hits the end of the slot. Could i cut the tab off?

If there are no traces on that tab (there shouldn't be any) Its fine to cut it off. I have "modified" plenty of cards before, just be careful.

Its still very odd that it touches the slot as surely they are all standard sizes?  Are you absolutely sure its a standard PCIe slot?

intel says that it is compatible with all PCIe slots [1x 4x 8x 16x] although it is made for 4x. the tab just gets in the way of a 16x and 8x slot but its fits fine in the slightly more set back 1x [modified] and x4 slot. As i do not have a 4x slot i need to fit it in my 8x slot.

TBH if it doesnt work then I'll probably think abut upgrading the mobo anyway
