1. Budget & Location

I'm looking to spend less than $1,000 US.  (I'm in the Phoenix, AZ area if anyone knows any good brick and mortar shops around that may be cheaper than online)

2. Aim

Basically, I have this (probably far-fetched) dream of being able to make money off my favorite hobby and quit my normal day job, so I want a system that is a good starter for gaming of all types plus streaming.  I'm not necessarily married to the idea of having a total beast at first, my idea is to invest a little bit now just to get started, with the intention of upgrading down the road if it pays off and I decide stick with it for the long run. So upgradeability is a pretty big factor.

3. Monitors

I plan on just using 2 monitors at first (one for gameplay and the other for everything else).  I already have a 32" 1080 led tv I plan on using for the main display.  I can probably get a second display pretty cheap and easy so I'm not concerned about that.  Eventually, I'd love to change the tv to my secondary monitor and run either dual or triple 4k displays for the gaming, but again, thats long-term goals.

4. Peripherals

I have a simple logitech bluetooth mouse/keyboard combo that work okay for now.  Eventually I'll upgrade to proper gaming stuff.  I also have been looking into getting a streamdeck to help make the streaming side of things a bit easier.  I'd like to run either windows 7 or 10.

I already did a little browsing and created a parts list, but with this being my first build, I'm not 100% confident in it, so I'd appreciate some feedback in things that may work better/places to cut costs/etc.

I'm too busy atm to fix everything.

You can just install windows for free without a key.

Should be buying a better GPU for that budget

nvidia announces new GPUs in like 3 days or something as well

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Don't buy a Hyper 212, it's not a great choice as a CPU cooler when there are so many better options out there. The Hyper 212 for the price is ghastly cheap and tremendously difficult to install. The cooling is abyssmal to boot.

Getting an alternative such as an Arctic 33 eSports One will yield much greater results.

1. Get a better board (Something from Asus with B450 will work)

2. Get a Ryzen 2600

3. Get a stronger GPU (GTX 1060/ RX 580)

4. You don't need that sound card.

5. Get a cheaper case. (Phanteks P350X)

6. Get an SSD- you realllly need it. (860 EVO 250GB)

7. You can get a lower wattage PSU (around 600 watts)

8. Please don't use a TV as a monitor, your eyes will die from the awful TV screen.

9. Don't get an aftermarket cooler.

10. Get a dual-channel ram kit.

Hope this can help :)

How does one go about getting windows for free? Everything I've seen shows it as a paid product?

What GPU do you recommend? (Again, keeping in mind that the initial will be temporary just to get me by until I decide to go all out)

That's silly, get an RX 580 8GB or whatever nvidia announces in 3 days

or just use a cheap R3 2200G APU build at around $400 to get you by until you upgrade to a top end GPU and like a 4K display

just use microsoft's media creation tool to make a windows 10 USB and hit the "I don't have a key" button when installing to get windows for free

But with the 33 eSports, there is also a push-pull variant known as the 33 eSports Edition that goes for no more than $15 more.

Also looks undoubtedly more aesthetically-pleasing.

$15 for a fan doesn't seem like value. Especially when the Mugen 5 rev B costs $45.

First post here! saw your thread and thought I could give some suggestion on the build and this is what I came up with.

I'm with Streetguru and reckon you should definitely go with Windows Media Creation tool to install your OS, you can get very cheap Windows 10 Pro keys on Ebay in the range from 5 to 10 dollars, I've personally never had an issue going that route. I agree with Konrad_K's advice on getting an SSD, you'll be thankful that you got one. Honestly unless a build is on a very constricted budget, I feel like an SSD is a welcome addition to any new build. I've added other general price/performance optimizations in the build as well (2600 instead of 2600x for a much lower price is one).

As far as ram, I would definitely recommend 2x4gb as it will allow you to run dual channel which gives a slight performance increase over single channel. This will still leave you with two slots to allow for a total of 16gb configured in the future, more than enough currently for general use/gaming.

For the rest of the budget, I'd definitely get a decent mouse and keyboard. Something like a Coolermaster Masterkeys S PBT tenkeyless and a G203 or G403 mouse with a mousepad would be a good place to start for that $100 range of budget left. It definitely makes a huge difference towards gaming over using office grade stuff.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!  I'll add this to my list of things to look into!  I'm thinking I'm going to blend all my lists that I've come up with to find the best/cheapest stuff and then try and find them cheaper at brick and mortar stores.

Okay.  So here's what I have now based on suggestions:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Churdle/saved/DMGq4D

Fixed it

Either want an ASrock Pro 4 or MSI tomahawk board for lower end stuff

needed 3000mhz RAM or better

Why do you think that 3TB drive is so cheap? It's a used hard drive, don't buy it.

What kind of display are you using right now? only 1080p 60hz?

Focus G is half the price with still decent airflow, if you were going to spend $100 get a coolermaster H500

How do we feel about Hybrid Drives?  I'm debating swapping from a 2 drive system to one to save some more money, but I don't have much info on hybrids to know whether that would be a good move or not

the ssd cache is way too small to make a difference in anything but the most used programs.
