DDR4 Speeds

Is there a huge noticeable difference between DDR4 3000 vs DDR4 3200 vs DDR4 3600? Using a i7 8700k gtx 1080ti for gaming on a asus z370 g. Also how does CAS factor into this?

From what I have seen, RAM speed doesn't matter as much on Intel, but it does with Ryzen. CAS latency is better when lower as you probably know and CAS 15 seems pretty standard.

3200MHz CL14 is pretty much the sweetspot.

You could go all out get a 3600MHz+ kit if you're into benchmarking too.

If you divide the memory speed with the CAS timing and multiply by 2000, you get the CAS latency in nanoseconds. That number is important, but the raw memory speed still matters as well (beyond its effect on the real CAS latency from this calculation).

If you're looking at timings when buying a kit then just try to buy one with all the teen numbers the same. So 14-14-14-28 or 15-15-15-30 at worst 16-16-16-32. This applies to speeds up to 3600MHz. Try to avoid the 16-18-18-36 or others that vary like that unless they are super high speeds like 4000MHz+. Those high speed kits, however, are not usually worth it unless you can find a good price or just don't care about the cost.

And whether speed matters then it's just hard to say after a certain point, but it does impact Intel less than it does AMD Ryzen.
