Hey

so just bought a ssd for my laptop and I need help!

After like an hour of trying to open the case.

I got it open.

The laptop is off. Should I Disconnect the battery?  Or is it fine.

And the SSD just installs right beside the HDD? I’m 90% sure.

but this is my first time doing this.

It never hurts to unplug the battery, but you really shouldn't have to. Other than that, just take the screw out of the M.2 standoff, throw the drive in, screw it down, and do whatever you gotta do.

Yup, just plug in in, no reason to disconnect the battery or anything else.

Really who ever replies first.

But what do I do with this lol.

It’s like a sticker or feels like hard plastic. Has tape on the backside.

You put that on top of the M.2 and you screw it down with it. Think of it as a back plate for a GPU. Gives the SSD a cleaner look.

I just stick it here?

Those  circle tabs are to remove then the back is sticky.

Looks about right. I don't see why put it on though. You're using a laptop, might interfere with putting the case back on.

Looks like a glorified heatsink for it, don't bother putting it on. Might actually do more harm that good, especially since it's in a laptop.

1.Run the command prompt.

2. At the command prompt window, type in diskmgmt then press Enter. This will open up Disk Management.

3. In Disk Management window, find the SSD which will be shown as Disk 1 (or Disk 2 etc. depending on the amount of drives you have on the machine.) Right click on the SSD then choose "Convert to GPT" (if it's currently uses MBR), or "Convert to MBR" (if it's currently uses GPT.) Just make sure it shares the same drive format type as the existing hard drive.
