Hey guys I'm starting my first new build after 4 years and I have question about the ryzen 5 I'm eyeing on newegg. It specifically states "DDR 4 2933" are they saying its only compatible with this memory or do they mean 2933 and higher?

Here is a great deal on the AMD RYZEN 5 2600X 6-Core 3.6 GHz (4.2 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 95W YD260XBCAFBOX Desktop Processor , https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-113-497
 I found.

The memory speed is mostly independent of the CPU speed. 2933-3200 is the sweet spot for Ryzen performance.

But I'm asking is if get the minimum in your example the 2933 or must I get 3200 to achieve the 4.2 max boost. I basically don't wanna be locked at the base 3.6 ghz speed because the mem doesn't support it.

CPU clock speed have almost nothing to do with memory speed

u can run a 2133mhz ram stick and still boost to 4.2ghz

your cpu is guaranteed to boost 4.2ghz, AND support up to 2933mhz ram, if it doesnt hit any of those, you may complain to AMD/retailer

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Ram speed =/= CPU Clock Speed.

Even with a 2166 u can get the 4.2 max boost.
