My rig:

CPU: AMD FX-8320

GPU: MSI R9 270X GAMING 2GB

MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P (rev 1.0)

RAM: KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST 2X4GB DDR3 1600MHz

PSU: FSP RAIDER 650W 80+ SILVER

CASE: COOLER MASTER N500

HDD: WD BLUE 1TB

MONITOR: PHILIPS 170S

OS: WINDOWS 10 PRO 64BIT

PC PARTS PICKER LINK (I couldn't find my monitor and RAM)

I have had this setup since 2014.

My problem:

A few months ago while playing TF2, my monitor went black and displayed - "Cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1280x1024@60Hz".

What I have tried:
- connected my PC to my monitor (the Philips 170S) with and without AMD drivers through VGA (the monitor has only 1 input) and I get the "Cannot display this video mode..."

- connected my PC to my TV (Panasonic TX-47AS750E) without AMD drivers through HDMI and I get colorful static (with AMD drivers I get a black screen).

- connected my PC to my other TV (Panasonic TX-L19X10EW)  with and without AMD drivers through VGA and I get a black screen.

- connected it again to the same TV (Panasonic TX-L19X10EW)  with AMD drivers through HDMI and I get a black screen.

***--- the only time it booted into Windows was on the Panasonic TX-L19X10EW TV without AMD drivers through HDMI and, strangely, 1/3 of the desktop screen was outside the monitors boundaries as if the picture is not centered to the TV display.

After that small success I reinstalled Windows, my RAM sticks and the GPU, used older the most recent AMD drivers but nothing changed.

- I installed my GPU into my cousin's PC (he has a GTX 950 with an i3 6100 so hopefully his drivers didn't interfere with my test) and connected it through VGA to his similar to mine fossil of a monitor and got a black screen.

That last test made me think that my GPU is the problem but I can't' make the connection as to why I can boot into Windows in one specific case.

Is there any life left in that MSI dragon ?

Thank you for your time !
