Okay my first day here as a friend gave me the link for this forum

Please try to limit the information in your post to the information that is necessary only, as it can become confusing otherwise.

However, I can see that you want to replace your motherboard.

The motherboard you listed is not compatible with your processor. This is because the socket (The socket the processor sits in on the motherboard) is a different than the one the processor has on it.

The motherboard you listed is for processors using AM4 sockets. Your processor in your 'Monster' is AM3, so when purchasing a motherboard, we need to make sure that it is the AM3 socket (Or, the AM3+ socket). This seems like a good motherboard with strong reviews of Amazon UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-78LMT-USB3-Socket-Micro-Motherboard/dp/B079GRXBDJ/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1533931324&sr=1-5&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A12724459031

That is basically how you should purchase motherboards at the simplest level. But it is advised that you find out what case you have, because then we can see if the motherboard will fit into your computer's case.

I hope this helps! if you need any more information feel free to ask :D

Okay my first day here as a friend gave me the link for this forum

I need to replace my motherboard in my primary computer PC

Win7

My PC (that I call my Monster) broke down and I thought it was the video card again so I bought a new one

CPU info

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 6 Core Processor 2.8GHZ Socket AM3

Okay so I tried to find a motherboard that would work with what I have and came up with this (suggested in help chat on site)
ASUS Prime X470-Pro AM4 AMD X470 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Now this all sounds good but I am concerned about compatible with each other
This computer is very important in my life as I am deaf and do everything on computers

My "Monster" was built in 2010 custom and uses three 24 inch monitors that are housed on a nine foot custom built table with wheels that goes over my bed
I have a number of medical issues and must rest a lot
Being Deaf is a totally isolating challenge and I do my social life also with my "Monster" It has been very hard for me to work on a notebook that was donated to me when my "Monster" was not working.

I really need help before I buy the above listed motherboard as I do not have a lot of money and a mistake can set me back months My computer tech friend that helps me out working on my computer (I am kinda his charity help) hasn't researched if this motherboard will work with my CPU etc
So a friend sent me a link to this forum to see if can get some help with this tech stuff

I am hoping that I can get confirmation that the motherboard I am thinking about will work with my CPU and other stuff from the above list
More info :)  I have a very large tower with a lock on the front so no USB ports can be placed there ...........it also has a locking side door you can see through and easy access to everything.  Now I love my Monster and miss it a lot ( I do everything online)

So a double check on listing what I am doing and about the hardware I have:
You might see repeats here as I did a notepad of info to just copy and paste here (I have a brain injury and use notepads to help organize things)
---------------------------------

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125919
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 DirectX 12 GV-N1050OC-2GD 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card

But then my friend that helps me out with higher tech knowledge and calmer nerves told me it was not my video card but my motherboard that needed to be replaced.

I really need to to be the right motherboard to work with my CPU I am told so this is my CPU but my tech friend is so busy with a second job he has not been able to research this to find out if they are compatible

ASUS Prime X470-Pro AM4 AMD X470 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my old motherboard was this
Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H 890GX AM3 ATX DDR3 2PCI-E 2PCI SATA3 USB3.0 HDMI GBLAN CrossFireX Motherboard

CPU:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 6 Core Processor 2.8GHZ Socket AM3 Retail Box

My Monster has 850watt powerbox or might be 1000watt but not possitive.  It also has 2 fans one intake and one outtake
with a blu ray drive.
currently has 16GBs of RAM not sure on brand as had to be changed due to breaking down in the last 8 years

So if anyone can help me make the right choice for fixing my "Monster" I would really appreciate it a lot

Thanks for reading all of this

The old and new boards are both ATX, so this shouldn't be an issue.  The PSU, RAM, hard drives, monitors, peripherals and GPU should all transfer over.  WIndows might ask for your activation code again.

Other than that I think you are good to go.

Edit - Actually the new one is Micro ATX, but should still fit in the old case.

Thank you everyone

I now understand what I need

Amazon would not ship to Canada but found one that will

So looking forward to having my Monster back......maybe old but still up to standards in what I use it for.  This was the reason for doing the original build to make it last longer.  It has done that for me for many years ...........and I hate Win10 so don't want a new computer  lol

Thanks again everyone Problem Solved

couple replies talked about my tower size ..........it's huge and locks front and side

My plan is to fix this one and then upgrade another one I was gifted HP Pavlion so smaller case there and then start the process for a brand new build piece by piece working with what I can in current "Monster"  Sorry named my computer some years ago other old computer is called Donkey just saying :)

My "Monster" ran hot so need to find more cooling for it as it might be what cost me my two twin gamer video cards that were in it.  I am hard on computers as usually have a lot of open links to many places while chatting in at a site that's a hungry beast for resources so been considering if can do more fans in it  but it is a large tower around 28 inches high front vents and back ones.
