Hello Guy's,

i wanted to build a setup that is easy to carry with me all the time. But it should be also powerfull enough to video edit and game on it at home.

So i researched a bit and i thought that having 4 cores is very good for gaming and the hump from gen 7 to 8 is bigger than i thought (at least in the light laptop segment i think). So I ended up with the:

-Lenovo Yoga 920, i5 8250U, 8gb, 256gb SSD, 15,6h Runtime, Stylus, 13,9" FHD,

2x Thumderbolt 3, 1x USB A 3.0

OR

Lenovo Yoga 720, i7 8550U, 8gb, 256gb SSD, 7,5h Runtime, Stylus, 13,9" FHD,

1x Thunderbolt, 1xUSB C 3.0,

1X USB-A 3.0

So then i wanted too choose a eGPU. Iwemt with the Omen Accelerator because it has a bunch of ports and a hard-drive bay! I also wanted to stick just one calble in it and then my screens go on, my Keyboard Lights up and my Mic goes on. And the Omen Accelerator can also charge the Tablet Simulatiously.

Last  but  not least i paired it with a GTX1060 6gb

My only two questions that i have are tha i know the 920 has 4 Lanes on the Thumderbolt Port but does the 720 has too?

So what do you think of the Build. Should i use an other Type of convertible or Tablet?Screenshot_20180809_215532.thumb.jpg.b9468d1e44ce15d318d24b1d83c68ed6.jpg

From what I can gather it'll be two lane.

This post on the Lenovo Forums & This One agree with me.

Oh snap, well I guess I spoke too soon.

That is about the Legion 720, overlapping modelnumbers .. GG Lenovo!

Anyhow not sure if that'll be a problem, especially for a GTX1060.

Can @Someone_else fill me in on that?

Seems like a pretty viable setup these days, eGPU have come far way since the dark days I mettled with them using ExpressCard on business laptops haha

Only thing I'm a uncertain about is your CPU, video editing will go at a decent speed however bitrate & resolution will play a major role here.

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?
"Monotone voice" : A local computer store.

*Terrible joke I know*

Not sure how you want to use those U CPUs - they won't be that super effective at video editing and whatever else CPU intensive. Decent but not close to high clock quad cores or newer CPUs with more cores. Thunderbolt eGPU doubles your GPU price. GTX1060 is still "easy" to put in a laptop so you can find lightweight laptops with GTX1060 built in.
