Differences beetween windows MR headsets

TinyBolts

I've been interested in VR for a while now, but cant spend a ton of money on the more expensive gear. The Windows MR headsets seem perfect for me, no setting up sensors, lower price. There are a couple headsets all with diffirent prices and I don't know the difference between them. The acer headset is only 330 euro, but I've heard it's uncomfortable, the hp is 460, but I've heard that it has a small sweet spot, the lenovo is 460, haven't heard anything bad about it tho and there are also 2 dell headsets, they look the same but have a 40 euro price difference, anyone knows what's up with that??? Well anyways, do you guys know any extra info? The acer one is the cheapest, so it would be best for me in terms of price.

VR is dead, period xD if you want to play vr games, go to you local vr center and pay to play it, It is the same like wii was, I was so hyped about it, I wanted to play for hours, but after I bought it i played it 2 times :/

TBH, if you're going to pay 460€, just get an Oculus Rift for €40 more.

330€ is fine for MR.  I would not spend more than that for MR.

idk it seems so damn fun, no such things as vr centers here btw. I could also carry the headset to my friend's house and such.

The oculus rift costs a lot more here and I would need to set up sensors. Also, I wouln't be able to carry the headset around.

IDK man, I play almost every day and my friends do too.

The only reason why I have not played much lately is because its so hot that its almost unbearable to have the headset on my head for more than 30mins as I start sweating a lot.

Herpaderpa I can mindlessly repeat a meme.

VR's doing fine. Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice just got VR, it's awesome. Going to a VR arcade usually costs too much, once you've been there a dozen times it would have been cheaper to just buy a headset.

Chances are you didn't even buy a VR headset anyway, or got some Cardboard-style crap for a phone.

Interesting. So you dislike VR games but you like VR porn?

I tried the VR Porn but its just silly and unwatchable for me, there is no immersion at all and it looks absolutely terrible imo

All the WMR headsets except the Samsung Oddyssey are pretty much the the same specs.

The only real differences are in the design and shape of the shell/strap but the resolution and FOV are are the same.

(The Samsung one is Higher Res/better screen and includes Mic/headphones but isn't available outside North America unless you want to import it yourself. It's also more expensive)

Having said that, I've tried the Acer WMR which is on par with the Dell and it's not bad but there are  some things you should be aware of depending on what games you are looking to play.

You Will need a PC with Bluetooth for the controllers to connect (so either a usb dongle or a motherboard with it built in). They don't make that as clear as they should.

You will need a separate headset and mic for multiplayer games

Issues with inside out tracking

While is makes setup a lot quicker and easier know that:

The controllers will only track when they are within the view of the front cameras. If you move the controllers too far out of the cameras view they will not track.  This can be an issue if you are regularly moving your arms outside of the tracked area like in very physical games.

You need a decently lit room with some contrasting elements on your walls for the head tracking to work. a very dark room or plain white walls will not track well.

It would help to know what games you are looking at playing.

I have a Samsung WMR for cockpit games like DCS World/ Project Car 2 / Elite Dangerous and it works very well for those.

I've played a bit of Budget Cuts on it and it's definitely usable but the loss of hand tracking can get annoying so you need to keep hand placement in mind.

The Vive or Rift is much better for room scale stuff with lots of motion.
