I enjoy fiddling around in pcpartpicker. I decided to challenge myself to build a somewhat quiet itx build with a black/gold theme for as cheap as i could while still being very powerful without being loud or hot.

so give me some suggestions on what I should change in this build and some reasoning for what I did wrong :3

I'll be doing a micro or mini or htpc build after I finish my main rig early next year.

Get rid of the 4770K and get a 4770 instead if you're getting a H81 board or get a Z87 board. The case is micro ATX so you may wish to swap it out for a  ITX. I'm not too sure of the hyper 212+ will fit into an ITX case if you go that route.

How are these changes?

And I think the stock cooler is probably too loud, would a noctua one, cant recall the name, it lays flat over the cpu, work?

It would probably hit the ram or GPU since its low and quite fat

From some research the case has 160mm of clearance for coolers which would mean the 212+ might fit although i'm not sure.

so low clearance ram is suggested for that cooler. (NH-L9a)

Don't get Toshiba hdd's if you don't have to. Get WD blues or barracudas instead., Greens are good for quiet.

I'd take a look at Be Quiet or Seasonic psus is you want quiet.

If you're not building soon, plan later. Parts and prices change frequently.

I changed the cooler to a NHL9a and went for low profile ram.

Do you know of any cases that come with sound dampining material like the Fractal R2?

Does toshiba have a bad rep for HDDs? I suppose they're more for SSD's because they manufacture the flash?

I'm not just 'planning' I'm trying to learn more about parts in the lower end range through other peoples opinions/suggestions

I'll be planning an official build in about two months.

The Define R4 is one of the best options that aren't really expensive with sound dampening.

From what I've read, it seems that those who have worked for Toshiba themselves say to avoid Toshiba drives if you have the choice.

Do all sizes of the define r4 have the sound dampening?

& that's harsh haha. I'll keep note of that.

How does this work for a silence optimized pc?
Would I be able to lay the Define on its side or would that screw with the harddrive and have to mount it flat somewhere else.

You can orient the case however you'd like as long as it's stable.

What happened to getting a small system though?

Well I wasn't able to find the small version with the sound dampening material.

I figured the mid tower on its side won't be THAT big. only a little bigger then an xbone.

What's the system being used for?

Streaming, emulation, media.

All the generic AAA games and old popular games.

To a 40 inch 120hz tv through HDMI

Goal is a smooth visual experience, not necessarily best graphics.
