Replace everything?

I currently have an AMD A8-7650K with R7 graphics, but I have been looking at other CPUs and noticed they are significantly cheaper as they use the AM3 socket while mine uses the AM4 socket. Would it be better off to replace my motherboard and CPU to get better performance on a budget or keep my current motherboard and go for the more expensive CPU range?

Last i checked that CPU is using FM2.

AMD A8-7650K is FM2+

If you want a current CPU, you should be looking at AM4 boards and APUs.

The AM3 socket is outdated, don't even bother looking at it if you're trying to upgrade. 

 

(By the way, the A8-7650K is an FM2+ cpu)
