SSD upgrade

Go to solution Solved by TopplesS,

This is my first post, so I'm not sure this is the right place

I have a question. Can my rig be SSD updated? I'm using a Hitachi hard disk now, and my plan is to upgrade it with SSD as a boot drive and the Hitachi as storage.

My rig is:

1) Motherboard-Gigabite H61M-S2PV

2) Processor-  Intel Celeron G1610

3)4gb ram(Adata)

4)GPU- NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT

I heard that I have to set in bios the driver to "ahci" but when I do this with the hard disk windows isn't coming up it freezing at some point when loading and my rig restarts. I suppose that when I plug my SSD and set to "ahci" and I install windows on it, it will work as planed.

You will have no issues with installing the SSD, however don't expect to get the maximum performance out of the drive due to the board you're using and the CPU you have. It will run alot better than a HDD though.

As for the AHCI issue - it's quite easy if you're comfortable with editing the registry. See here for directions.

yes you can upgrade it but you migh wont get the full experience due to sata limits or so.

That your hard drive isnt working with ahci comes from the fact that you have to switch to ahci before installing windows. you can change it after the installation but then you have to change some settings in windows first. (there are guides online)

Thank you guys for the fast responses. You are great. Yea there is a limitation because my board is sata 3gigs and the SSD is working in 6gigs I think. Overall there will be a small boos in performance than the HDD. But TopplesS you said that there is a limitation connected with the CPU can you tell me sth more about that. :)

Just the Celeron chip you have, it's not very fast for anything really.
