Hi everyone!

I'll make this short: My current rig is 6 years old now (assembled in 2012) and in these recent few weeks has started to give me graphical errors. I guess the GPU is about to die and I haven't been able to play the most recent games on high settings for a few years so I gather it is high time for a new build. My aim is gaming with a pretty large budget, but I am going to need a few interim solutions as described below. Thanks for all the replies! B|

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

- I really want to stick it to intel and go back to AMD, but should I wait for 2800X?

Motherboard - Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero (X470 Chipset)

RAM - Corsair Vegeance RGB Pro White 16Gb (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz (CMW16GX4M2C3200C16W)

- Apparently 32GB is still useless for gaming.

GPU - ASUS ROG RX580 T8G

- Interim solution until Navi launches. This is the highest spec 580 they offer and Vega is twice the price.

Power supply - Corsair AX860

- This model is almost 6 years old, but I want top of the line quality. Are there any other contenders? I don't want AXi.

Windows drive - Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 250GB

- I only store Windows 10 Pro on this drive and the smallest 970 PRO is 500GB, which is too large for this application. This new 970 EVO has a warranty for 150 TBW or 5 years.

Gaming drive - Samsung 860 PRO SATA 512GB

Storage system - Western Digital WD Gold 8TB (x 2 / RAID 1)

- Highest spec prosumer drives I've seen. I would prefer HGST, but current Ultrastar and Deskstar offerings have worse MBTF.

Case - Lian Li something

CPU fan - Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4

- I don't want watercooling.

M.2 heatsink - EKWB EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink - Nickel

- I can't use the top slot on Crosshair VII Hero.

Sound card - Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5

Monitor - ASUS MG279Q IPS Freesync 27" 2560x1440

- I'm really not sure about this one. This monitor is well reviewed, but already 2 years old and has quality control issues. It has all the 3 things I require: IPS, Freesync and 27" 2560x1440. Do I have any other options or there any upcoming launches? I haven't found anything better so far.

Out of curiosity, what does your current build consist of? If it's X58 you can probably save a lot of money by just upgrading to a Xeon, maxing out the RAM, and getting a 1080 or something.

Quote me to see my reply!

Ah yeah, although it's still a very capable platform (at least in my eyes ;)) I understand now.

But as for the new build, it's a good setup. I'd negate the sound card and the M.2 heatsink to save some cash. Oh, and even though I would die for our lords and saviors at AyyMD, I'd go with a Novideo GPU for this high-end of a build.

Might be able to save a few bucks on the M.2 depending on where you live switch to the Adata XPG SX8200 240 GB M.2 drive which according to current bench rankings is slightly higher performance than that 970 Evo.

Could try a U14 or D15 from noctua in place of the U12.

Probably don't absolutely need to have the sound card.

Rawr.
