Mainly gaming but it will also act as a media server and backing up a couple of devices...

I already got an SSD for the OS, Windows 8, keyboard, mouse and monitor which is a 47" 1080p TV. I also know that the 1000W power supply is overkill. I'll be adding another 770 down the road. 850W is recommended for 770 SLI so there's a little overhead.

I'm in Canada.

CPU:  Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($239.99 @ Newegg)

CPU Cooler:  Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler  ($74.75 @ Amazon)
Motherboard:  ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Memory:  Mushkin Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory  ($134.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card:  MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card  ($334.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case Fan:  Noctua NF-A14 FLX 68.0 CFM 140mm  Fan  ($21.49 @ NCIX US)
Other: NZXT SEN-MIX2 Sentry Mix 2 Fan Controller ($30.00)
Total: $1551.15

First build so any advices are welcome.

Don't want to hijack my own thread with another question but I'm wondering... I'll be backing things to one of the 4TB drives. I'll like to add redundancy to the second drive. I've heard that it's bad idea to use raid for backup. Would that apply here ? What would be the best way to clone the drive ?

Get 8gb of ram instead of 16. Most games don't even use 8gb. A define r4 will suit your build more then the define xl r2. 1000W is overkill. Get the RM750 or 850 instead. Like what @TheRuke said don't get the asrock mobo get an msi z87 g45 motherboard. If u can, get an r9 290 or a gtx 780

What matter in RAM anyway, speed or CAS ? Seems everybody's saying speed doesn't matter but there's that thing about BF4 performing better. Anyway, what do I look for ?

Would this be kinda good ?

Some reccomendations to make it better :

( BTW , fan controllers these days really arent needed anymore since the mobo's support enough fan headers and they have great software for controlling it etc.)

FX-8320 is really all you're going to need for gaming honestly.

Also a R4 is really adequate as it's just a smaller version of the XL and is really enough to house all the components + SLI in the future.

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($146.00 @ Vuugo)
CPU Cooler:  Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler  ($84.99 @ Memory Express)
Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($108.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Memory:  Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory  ($51.00 @ Vuugo)
Storage:  Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($149.99 @ Memory Express)
Video Card:  MSI GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card  ($519.99 @ Memory Express)
Total: $1570.43

Also i know the PSU is COMPLETELY Overkill but it's only 20 dollars more than the RM850 so yeah , if when you buy the parts the AX1200 becomes much more expensive just get the Corsair RM 850W , it will be more than enough for SLI.

I don't particularly like AMD (bad experiences in the past) but your built makes it tempting... Like pretty much the same price, a 780 and another SSD. Thx for the post !

As for the XL R2 vs the R4, I knew and I chose the XL. I just want to show everyone who's got the bigger PC. Seriously I'm kidding :P
