Hello,

I am going to build a computer with a ryzen 5 1600 and an rx580 soon. I am debating what type of monitor I should get. I can get a 60-75 hz ips panel with 5ms response time or I can get a 144hz tn panel with 1ms response time. Not sure if the rx580 can even utilize the 144hz. I am mostly just going to be gaming on the computer.

Thanks,

Auvz

It depends on what you value more.

  • Color reproduction (games/movies look better), little to no backlight bleeding and wide viewing angle -> IPS
  • High Refresh rate or on budget and don't care much about anything -> TN

For me, my perspective, while higher refresh is definitely a nice thing to have, what's the point in putting a game at high visual settings if everything look either over-saturated or washed out (depending on the monitor). I also enjoy watching movies on it, and I use my PC for productivity, so IPS comes first. When IPS with high refresh rate comes down in price, then this is something I'll consider. But that is me. You are definitively different. Many don't care about colors, and reproductions of the game art work, tend to play the game at low settings to ensure 120-144fps with their 120-144Hz monitor
