If you go over 144FPS on a 144Hz, you're going to get screen tearing.

In this scenario, limiting the FPS to 144FPS will eliminate most if not all screen tearing. I limit my FPS to 75FPS because I have a 75Hz monitor and I get no screen tear. I have a FreeSync monitor too.

cool thank you, I'm looking into a 1080p 144hz QLED monitor from samsung. so if I'm not wrong, I can cap the frame rate to 144 fps and get rid of most if not all scream tearing?

Absolutely, as long as the game you play lets you cap the framerate. :) Easy way of suppressing screen tearing.

Suprisingly a lot of games, at least the ones I do, let me cap.

Some games I play that let me cap:
• Any Source game - CSGO, Garry's Mod, Half-Life etc

• Overwatch

• Rocket League

I don't know any others but I'm sure there are framerate caps available.

It's an Acer KG221Q, a 1080p 75Hz 1ms FreeSync TN monitor. :) Great for budget gaming, got it for £90. It looks like a baby Acer Predator monitor. :D
