Planning on building my first real PC! Could you help me with the parts?

Go to solution Solved by Crunchy Dragon,

I have one machine with an i5 like you mentioned, but it's significantly more expensive than something Ryzen 5-based:

Benefits of this machine are it's Intel, so you get higher single threaded performance. Downsides are it's a locked CPU, so no overclocking. You also pay quite a premium, which brings the price closer to €1000. This system also lacks an SSD which will make the boot process slower.

I also have a Ryzen based system, which would be a much better option:

Benefits of this system are you get 12 total threads, which means rendering and other CPU-intensive tasks will be faster due to the extra CPU power. This CPU is also unlocked in case you want to overclock, and this system fits your budget much better. Downsides are few, the only real problem is the lack of an SSD, but that's a hard item to fit in at your kind of budget.

I did my best to match your planned aesthetic, the case and motherboard both have white and the RAM is red.

Hello everyone!

So as I said in the title, I want to build a new PC around this year and I would love to get suggestions on which parts I should take. I will tell as much info as you need for the build.

I'd mainly use it for games, and the most demanding games I'd probably play would be the last F1 games, XCOM, Civ, online games such as OW and LoL, Rocket League, maybe that little new game that just came out and I can't play... I'm okay with playing them at a good FPS rate, don't need to max them out to the top.
I'm also studying so I'd like to be able to run Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects without much problem, and also some programming stuff.

Also my city is a little hot in the summer so I'd like it to have a good air flow but maybe it's too soon to decide this matter.

My main idea was an Intel i5 processor, with maybe 8 to 16 GB of RAM, tho I don't know if I really need those 16 GB, you can judge by that last paragraph. For GPU I thought of a Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB. Budget is around 800-900€ moreless. I'm in Spain so maybe if you use PCPartPicker I would appreciate using Spain's website for shipping and euros thing.
As with the looks, I would like a case I can look into and white or red colours for the case and stuff. Don't need a lot of RGB stuff, just the necessary.

And I think that's it, any doubt you can ask me. Thanks for your attention and thanks in advance for the response!

No need for OS (provided by University) and I already have the peripherals. Maybe I could add a monitor but that doesn't need to go into the 900€ budget.

Thank you Crunchy Dragon, you did a great job. At first, I shouldn't need to overclock at all so that i5 8400 was what I was looking at. I also thought of picking a Ryzen 5 but I never thought of getting a Radeon GPU, so I'll look into that. Thanks for the aesthetics too!

This is mostly what I had in mind, thank you Herman.

One more doubt, is there anything specific I should wait for? Like a memory price drop or Nvidia launching the new GPUs or Intel announcing something? I can postpone buying the PC until later this year.

not really, i doubt they're releasing a mid-ranged GPU so soon.

Yeah but once they start releasing some of the next gen cards soon prices for the 10 series will drop.

Also the ryzen 5 1600 is cheaper has more cores and a higher clock Speed and overclocking support...

Don't see why you go from post to post hating on AMD CPUs @Herman Mcpootis

In multiple Threads you have designated comments suggesting ryzen chips as funny...

I'll send screenshots in a couple of minutes

ahh yes, you claim a massive bottleneck on a 1080ti with an i5 8400. that performs better than a stock ryzen 1600/2600. while claiming the 1600 has more cores when all it has is some extra threads from hyperthreading. and that definitely means i'm an AMD hateboy when i've already recommended a ryzen cpu multiple times this week.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Actually there's very little bottleneck from either i5 8400 or Ryzen 5 1600/2600 on that card.

But the 2600 might be slightly better for the 1080. The difference however is not very significant.

Well guys, so just Nvidia 11 series release to wait for and I should look into Ryzen and Radeon. The rest is mostly clear. Thanks to everyone!

Depends on how long you can wait. If you can wait long enough for Nvidia to release the next generation, then wait. If you need the rig somewhat quickly, go Radeon.
