UPDATE: I have solved the issue! My fix was to download an install an Intel chipset driver, found from the MSI support site. dajackal I'm happy you found your fix as well, sorry I didn't respond in a timely manner.

@Benzmann,

 

There are a three possible methods now.

 

1. You could use my method which is linked here - basically disable Windows fast boot in Windows. Solves the problem until a full driver is released which doesn't have the problem... This method is very easy to do but it will slow your shutdown times and startup from turning your system on.

 

Or

 

2. Pirata's method which involves installing a different reduced driver set which he links in this thread. The reduced driver doesn't have Sonic Studio which is not a massive problem although I quite like what it does.

 

Or

 

3. Some people seem to have solved the problem (like the OP) by installing an Intel Chipset driver from the MSI site. I have tried installing the latest chipset drivers myself but it made no difference.

 

NOTE!

The problem temporarily goes away if you restart your computer rather than do a default shut down. This means that you can think you've solved the problem after installing some drivers and then restarting.

ok, problem seems to have been resolved for me hopefully.

i disabled the Windows Fast Boot Function.

i also installed new chipset drivers from the Asus Support site., i noticed that the new Armoury Crate Software from Asus that comes with the motherboard has a different Chipset driver for some reason,

 

Asus Armoury Crate Chipset Driver version: 10.1.16.5

Asus Support Site Chipset Driver version: 10.1.17695.8086

I'm glad the fast boot fix solved the problem for you. Hopefully Nahimic are reading these forums and can see there is a real problem with their driver software (assuming it is actually them of course).

 

I also have chipset driver version 10.1.16.5. On this installation I decided to leave it up to Armory crate to do all the work without fiddling and manually putting support site drivers on.

 

Interesting

As you suggest their support site has a newer driver 10.1.17695.8086 however, MSI seem to be showing an even newer driver than that 10.1.17711.8088.

im still facing this issue FFS.

 

disabling the Fast boot did not fix this for me.

That's odd Benzmann it worked on two different systems here and you have exactly the same motherboard as mine. I'm assuming you followed my guide and disabled fast boot in Windows? Disabling it in BIOS didn't have any affect for me.

 

I just double checked both systems, nothing on mine for over a week now but on the other system. It actually has produced the problem on odd days but only briefly, a couple of dump files today at 8:16am, a couple a few days before that. Are your dump files being created constantly still?

 

You might want to try the Intel chipset fix next and if that fails try the reduced driver set.

yeah i followed what you said. but everytime i shutdown my system for 3min or more and start it up again, then it comes again. if i restart, then it wont come.

i shut down my pc in the end of each day

 

though,when i got home yesterday and saw i still had the problem,. i opened up Task Manager, and Ended the Nahimic Process, right then copy paste started working again the way it should, then i went to services and started the service up again, and the problem returned right as the service started up.

 

so i decided to disable the Nahimic Service under "Services" and shut down my computer for 10mins, and turned it on again, so far so good.

when i  copy paste the error doesent come.

 

hopefully this has resolved the issue for me.

That's really strange. The fact that a restart fixes it for you means that it is the hybrid shutdown that is causing the problem.... so disabing fast startup should fix it!

 

I disabled the service myself when I was testing solutions. Unfortunately this ended up with me being unable to get Sonic Studio working again at all - this is why I ended up re-installing Windows. If you aren't too fussed about using Sonic Studio features then perhaps a better solution might be to install the slimmed driver without Nahimic from the Asus forums?

 

FYI - Asus support have been in touch with me. So far they haven't been able to duplicate the problem. This is strange to say the least because I couldn't find a way to avoid the problem on my machine or my son's if I install the full Nahmic driver.

The problem came back for me yesterday for the first time since I found the fast startup workaround on 31-10-18. It went away with another shutdown but the fact that it happens and there is no way of knowing without checking the temp folder or doing a copy and paste is really very annoying. In the space of just over 30 minutes the service wrote 446 dump files.

 

To recap:

 

1. You can disable fast startup in Windows. Solves it so it only happens rarely (for me at least). However, start-ups and shutdowns take considerably longer than normal.

 

2. You can disable the Nahimic service . Solves it but causes problems with the software (Sonic Studio in the case of Asus boards)

 

3. You can install a slimmed Asus or MSI driver (not sure if there is an MSI one). This avoids installing Sonic Studio/Nahimic but obviously you lose the features the software offers. I am beginning to find this quite tempting but the Nahimic software does really seem to enhance the sound.

 

I chased Asus yesterday and had a reply today that they still haven't been able to duplicate the problem. As I've mentioned on other forums - I have two systems with this problem (completely different hardware except they both have Sonic Studio 3 facility) and could not stop the problem on either no matter what I did. I think my contact at Asus UK is treating the problem seriously but I really don't know if Asus Taiwan are still working on it or have given up thinking that I'm just one user with a problem (despite pointing them at related forum posts).

I've found that sometimes the service still manages to fail on a restart which explains why a shutdown with fast startup disabled doesn't always work.

 

I have written a short vb script which I run at logon to check whether there are dump files being written into my temp folder.

I've put the script up on Tom's here:

It is reliant on you deleting the dump files once you've been alerted and may give the odd false positive because sometimes the Nahimic service creates a file or two in their anyway.

Ok, since I'd like to be advised if this will happen to me again, I'd like to use your script, and for that I'd edited it so for opening the TEMP folder just right the warning message. Here is the script. Copy and paste this into a text file change both the "YOURUSERNAME" to... your user name and save it. Change the file extension to .vbs

So run up Task scheduler

Click on the right top panel - Create Basic Task

Type a name in,

NEXT

Click "When I log on"

NEXT

Click "Start A Program "

NEXT

Browse to the folder you put your script in and choose it. (As mentioned make sure you put it in a simple folder name like "c:\Nahimic\")

NEXT
Click the check box to open the properties dialogue

FINISH

At the bottom of the properties window "Configure for:" - choose Windows 10

Click the check box for "Run with the highest privileges"

Click the "Triggers" Tab

Select "At log on"

Click Edit

Under "Advanced settings"

Check "Delay task for:"

Choose "30 seconds" in the drop down

Edit the "30" for whatever you want... I went for 10.

Click OK

Click OK

 

That's it. To check it is working - right click on it and RUN it.

 

If there is no dump file in your temp folder then nothing will seem to happen

To check it works create a text file in the temp folder, rename it to:

"PRODUCT_NAME_UNKNOWN_CrashDumpPRODUCT_VERSION_MAJOR_UNKNOWN-PRODUCT_VERSION_MINOR_UNKNOWN-2018-11-21--10-39-14_.dmp"

Perfect! I had fount it my self, but didn't thought to check the box for "Run with the highest privileges".

My Sonic Studio software auto updated tonight via the Windows App Store.

 

On a restart I immediately got ONE crash dump file in my temp folder.

 

However:

I set fast startup back on and, so far, crash dump files have stopped appearing in my temp folder and copy and paste is working!

 

It is worth pointing out that I have never been able to have fast startup enabled without getting the problem so this is a very hopeful sign!
