defragmenting?

wondering if I could set up my main drive to defragment when it hits 10%?

 

running win 10 64 bit

It should automatically defrag if it's a hard drive. Ever since Windows Vista it's been an automatic process.

Windows handles its own defragmenting since I believe Win7.  You don't need to do anything.  If it's an SSD that goes doubly, since it defragmenting does nothing besides waste its lifespan.  I think the Win10 defragment utility if manually ran simply triggers TRIM to activate in that case.

It does it in the background weekly by default. Sundays at 3AM if memory serves correctly. It's not something to worry about.

huh cause there is an option to set a schedule for it to defrag daily(waste),weekly, or monthly its set to none by default

Scheduling's only for those that are overzealous about it or require it as part of some corporate IT policy.  Otherwise it just happens when judged it's needed.  Actually I think even when scheduled it may not run if fragmentation isn't enough.  If you don't have it scheduled and want it so, just do set it to weekly and forget about it.  It'll handle it if required.  There's not a conditional option though in the built-in tool to force it to run at 10% fragmentation.  Maybe in some type of system policy.
