I have a Gateway Desktop SX2803-US20P. It came with Win7 and when it was free Win10 upgrade, I upgraded. It worked fine until around April. During the April update, it stuck at an update loop. So I create a Win10 USB stick for fresh install. It always crashes when setting up. Then I thought hardware problem. Run Memtest, no problem. Install Ubuntu 16.04, and run stress, no problem. Just cant seem to install Win10. Any other suggestions?

If you haven't already, maybe try 32-bit Windows, since the hardware seems a little underpowered for a full 64-bit install.

How do you do that? The microsoft website only have the newest one

Of course any version of Win10 that you get from Microsoft will be the latest version but if you check the download page you should see where you are able to download a 32bit version of Win10 and/or a 64bit version of Win10.  For my own use I keep a USB flash drive in the box with the rest of my computer stuff so depending on the system, sometimes you need a 32 bit version or the 64 bit version.  All new machines these days will use the 64 bit but for machines that may have a few years on them, such as a machine that was originally running Win7, then you might want to give the 32 bit version a shot.  Let us know here in the forum about what happens.

find an older build online. I'm just making a guess here but i assume the newer builds might not like your older gateway drivers it may need

I have older computers running the newest Win10. Guess I have no choice

During the install process, either 32 or 64, did you remove/delete all the partitions on the drive?  From what you wrote, I get the feeling there might be some "left overs" on the drive from previous operating system installs.  Is it possible to put the drive into a different machine to check it out?  With a clean, fresh install, you want to completely remove all partitions on the drive.  This will get rid of everything on the drive to make sure the install goes alright.

Yep, delete everything. I installed Ubuntu before to check if is hardware issue but it works fine with Ubuntu

By delete everything, do you mean that you used the file manager to delete files, etc., or did you remove the existing partitions on the drive during the install process?  There is a BIG difference.  I did a google on your system and it said that the board supports up to 8gig or ram with 4 slots.  What do you have going on now for ram?

Google also says the machine came with a pre-installed version of Microsoft Office.  If you're trying to hang on to that in the process of installing Win10, don't.  Have you ever tried to clean the old thermal paste from the CPU?  Other than what we have tried so far, also make sure that your BIOS is set to the default settings.  No overclocking.

Not much more that I can think of right now, go ahead with this and see what happens, I will keep watch for your next note.

I did the delete during setup. The only I did hardware wise is the blow dust out like 2 years ago. Is not my machine so I rarely touch it unless there is a problem. BIOS is default

Ok, so all looks good.  You need to create a new partition in the 931.5 GB of unallocated space.  Once you do that, then you should be able to go ahead and use the new partition after it is formatted to install your Win10.  Looks good from where I'm sitting.  When it wants you to format the drive, be sure to choose the NTFS file format.

Yeah, still BSOD for 64bits and black screen for 32bits. Work fine in Ubuntu

At this point in time I have to apologize because I can't think of anything else to try.  Other than maybe you got a bad copy of Windows.  Where did you get the Windows from?  Are you using the Windows Media Creation Tool?  You can get it at the link I put at the end of this note.  They have Win7, Win8.1 and Win10.  If you can install Ubuntu and it works okay, then the problem would not be the drive or the ram as far as I can figure.  From what we have tried so far, I'm in a corner and just can't think of anything left to try other than maybe you got a bad copy of Win10.

Good luck, hope we get it figured out.

Yeah I got it from there, directly from microsoft. Hopefully it is like the other guy said and is a driver issue.

Anyway, thank you for your help

If it was a driver issue, it still should have installed using the generic drivers that Microsoft installs along with the system files.  Everything that you need to get it running is in the Windows Media Creation Tool software.  You should only be required to use other drivers AFTER you get it running with the Media Tool.  Please keep in touch because when you do get it figured out, I would really like to know because obviously there is something that I missed but I just can't figure out what it is.  Just scratch my I.D. down somewhere so when you do get it running you can let me know what the problem was.  I'm just bummed that we couldn't get it going.  Take care and good luck.

I know this thread is about a year old now but just curious if you ever got windows 10 to install on this gateway? I have the same exact model and was unable to get windows 10 to install as well. Just kept get blue screen with hardware issue error.

Try removing the WiFi card. That fixed it for me.
