Hello everyone, this is my first time building a game/work pc so any help will be appreciated!!! (PS: I use a 34" 1440P ultrawide)

i'll be starting my build in September, and I've finished my list, but I do have a few questions.

1. I'm getting a Ryzen 5 2600, whats the ram speed I should be looking at? Can I buy a lower speed ram and oc it?

2. Ram prices are stupid high, should I get a 8gb stick just to get through for now? If so, is it a good idea to get 2X4 or just 1X8?

3. Do i need more fans for the NZXT case?

4. Is my 520W power supply enough?

5. I see people installing drivers after installing windows, what are those?

Dont have to answer everything, thanks guys.

If your going for a Motherboard that has 4 slots for RAM then I'd go the 2x4 route for better performance over a single 8gb RAM stick at the same speed. For gaming you won't really need more than 16gb which is also good for even graphic design and video encoding at the lesser half of RAM demand, to be fair 4x4 would perform better than 2x8 or 1x16 for when you decide to upgrade (16gb is plenty for gaming and I'd say go one step up in RAM speeds from the default end of speeds say ddr4 at 2400MHz).

Next I would recommend a $60 1tb HDD if you don't have one already to pull with a 7200rpm (a hybrid drive may be found for similiar prices, like Western Digital which I've never had issues with)

Also I would say stay with the stock fans and cooler to see your performance perhaps you will like what you got going on.

Have you considered getting a Zotac GTX 1080 mini? Its practically the same price as a EVGA 1070 and is better than a 1070ti for about $560-600USD, from Amazon.

Also if you don't care about looks (which I don't aside from my case) you can save in that department with your RAM (I don't mind green sticks).

So all in all my recommendations if they apply in Canada as reasonable:

1. Two 4gb RAM sticks at 2400MHz

2. Stock Fans/Cooler (upgrade of necessary)

3. Zotac GTX 1080 (mini)

4. 1TB WD 7200RPM HDD (64mb cache or more)

5. Enermax PSUs

6. A cheapo small sized SSD as a pagefile (used off eBay)

7. A used CPU from a highly rated vender on eBay

My suggestions may save you upfront maybe $200, but I'm going off United States.

Possibly switch to this PSU. Costs a little bit less and forum list rates it higher,

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/B6XnTW/cooler-master-masterwatt-550w-80-bronze-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-mpx-5501-amaab-us

Could also increase PSU cost and go with a higher end Seasonic PSU: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/KmgzK8/seasonic-focus-gold-550w-80-gold-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-ssr-550fm

Also the mobo has 4 headers specifically for case fans so I'd say double up on your fan of choice. Case includes 2 fans and has room for 2 additional 140MM fans. For a combined DBa CFM and Price comparison those Cooler Master fans are pretty awesome up in Canada at the moment.

1. since your buying a seperate gpu i suggest getting the 1st gen so that compatibility is more assured.

2. if you can only afford single 8 go single 8 instead of 2x4 your safe bet is 2400

3. get at least 3 fans  extra depending on the installed fan size. Or get it depending if you want to optimize airflow.

4. change your psu to at least 600w or 800 for future proof just in case your going to add extra stuff.

5. some drivers installed after windows are just to optimize your hardware which is very much recommended.

Good luck

If you have any questions just let me know message or continue this thread.

If you go with a single 8 gig stick then when you get another stick get the same as you first purchased it pretty much guarantees your motherboard will run it rated dual channel for you.

If you go with 2x4 Gig in the interim you'll get greater overall performance, but the move to 16GB will potentially cost quite a bit more unless you snag another 2x4 Gig kit with same clock speed and timing. If you go with a kit over 2400MHZ then make sure to set the XMP profile.

I think you've made some great choices, a 1070 is great for 1440p gaming

520W power supply is sufficient, I'd say not much point going above 600W - in this case I would be more concerned about the quality of the PSU since your specs really only use 350-400W load (from what I've read, the evo version seems better if you can get it, although the standard version is still great)

In case you aren't completely sure I am using a 1070, DDR3 ram and a 3rd gen i7 with a 450W mini-itx power supply. No issues at all.

Oh Canada! I would look in the United States at stores like micro center for cheaper 1070's. G skill has different models and price ranges I am sure you could find a cheaper 16gb ram. Everything else looks good

Guy above me says 600w PSU. Just to be safe i'd go 650w, but i wouldn't go any more than that.

1. see if you can get some 2800-3200mhz ram.

3. they're not strictly needed but having an extra 1-2 fans will help lower temps.

4. yes, but the M12 is old as dirt and missing protections. get a coolermaster masterwatt instead.

5. they're software that lets your system communicate with the hardware it's using. you'll need to install them.

Well yeah if he can budget it in then of course, case fans consume like 5w each or something so its good if he plans to overclock or upgrade

But its barely an upgrade. If anything money can be gained again. I say if he is concerned for money to go the least as possible initially and upgrade as he finds fit. I have a 650watt and I don't even use 30% of its power (at least based off that the fan never revs up like it says if it begins to use over 30% power...What if its defective dun dun duuun)

But going 50 watts is not really worth it if he goes higher he might as well go for a 800watt.

800 is a bit overkill he wont run dual gpus i run dual vega 56 10 fans and a 1600x i can oc but do it with a safe bet.

if he oc then the extra 50 is at least there.

dont get me wrong i see your point but if he doesnt oc then he wont need it
