yes.. I won't this is just for repurposing. maybe a machine he can use for some light gaming. I am planning to partner it with GTX 660 and an athlon ii x4. so basically I can use any 1600 ddr3 ram even if it is not listed in the list of supported rams?

You can try any 4gb DIMM at 1600mhz or less yeah.  If you can find ram on the QVL, buy that though.

Hi,

I was wondering.

I have this mobo N68C-GS FX from Asrock. And in the specs, it says it supports ddr3 1600. Does that mean I can use any ram that is ddr3 1600 or do I have to look for the ram that is specifically listed in its list of supported ram?

This is the board: https://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/N68C-GS FX/#CPU

Thanks.

That platform is pretty tolerant when it comes to memory. However the motherboard only supports memory modules up to 4GB each.

The motherboard is an oddity in that it supports either DDR2 or DDR3 memory.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Do not buy into an outdated poattform if you are buying new. Even if upgrading stay away from older plattforms, especially the FX plattform

thanks for the advise. the thing is I already have the board. I am just repurposing it for my dad..

Basically it's guaranteed to work with RAM on the list and will probably work with any RAM that spec.

As stated above, DO NOT buy this board if you have the money or something better.  FX is ded....

Id recommend selling what you have and buying into an Ryzen 2200G. You can get a potent machine for less than 350$. Less than 300$ if you allready have an PSU and Storage
