$300 Budget Build

Newbix_Cube

Building a ~$300 budget build for a friend as a gift... (Trust me it's better than his 2004 HP Pavilion.)

He already has a XFX Radeon 5450. ( I know it's not great but work out it please.)

He uses a very low resolution monitor, 1024x768. Which allows him to game on his current pc decently (Skyrim on High with some mods.)

Would like to pay no more than $350 after shipping and taxes if possible.

Thank you for all considerations and options!

I don't even think that it is possible.

What does he want to use this PC for?

Here's a draft I made, not sure whether it's good or not.

It's also a bit over the price I'd like to hit.

CPU:  AMD FX-4130 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($94.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard:  ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($53.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card:  XFX Radeon HD 5450 1GB Video Card  (Purchased For $0.00)
Case:  BitFenix Merc Alpha (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($29.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply:  Antec 450W ATX Power Supply  ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $336.93

I'd honestly say buy a console if it's for gaming, and buy a chromebook if it's for school work. That's not worth it to buy or build any sort of pc.

If he's dead set on it this is fine, just change the ram out for 2 x 4GB.

Not really it's a great experience. If you have more money, obviously a computer is better.

If he's dead set on it this is fine, just change the ram out for 2 x 4GB.

The mobo only holds 16gb.

Dual channel isn't that great of a difference.

It'd be a waste to upgrade later if you couldn't expand without removing the 2x4 ram.

Don't you think?

Memory doesn't work as well generally unless purchased together.

so if you bought 1 8gb now and 1 8gb later there's a larger chance for issue and lower performance.

plus with DDR4 on the way 8gb dual channel (2x4gb) will serve you well till an upgrade.

You f***kin cray mayne. Tell your buddy to wax a few more ermm just save some money!

Seriously though, just save a hundey and get a ps4. Boo hoo to all the console haters, fact of the matter is a console is a superior gaming platform in many instances. Hardware certainly isn't everything while in this instance cost certainly is. Tell him to entertain the idea, if he's hellbent on m and kb well most relevant games will probably support it in the future.

Well as we all know we can play those games on pre 2k Emachines :DDD All jesting aside, he'd seriously be retarded to build a PC for those games alone! Not to slight those games, I am partially interested in Dota 2, but not at all interested in the cost of the game or the learning curve :)
