DOOM drops FPS heavily please help

I'm honestly assuming it's my processor, but I'd like to know if anyone has any other ideas.

I'm writing this because I haven't seen a problem exactly like mine. My computer is a Lenovo IdeaPad z580 with i5-3210m (2 core 4 thread @ 2.5 ghz base) with a GTX 760 (192 bit 1.5gb OEM card) connected via a external gpu adapter. It has 8gb of ram and cannot be further upgraded. It can run other games at medium/high 1080p at 60 (fallout 4, just cause 3, gta 5) and yet doom is the game I have problems with. All my drivers are to date, the game was reinstalled twice, and I have this problem. T

When the game first loads the menus load quickly (under 1 minute and I'm in game). When the game loads it starts off around 50 fps and then immediatly drops to 13 fps and stays there the rest of the time. My first thought was "OpenGL isn't working, better use Vulkan" but vulkan makes it worse to the point where I get 1 fps in menus and the game freezes up if I try to load a save. It evens goes as far as to either BSOD or lock up my pc. I can't get it to work. I've changed game settings, settings in nVidia control panel and it does nothing.

Anyone got any ideas besides my processor? Thanks for your response.

It's kind of everything. I have a gtx 760 2gb and it struggles. I can play on minimum and there's still lag spikes. It's just a high demanding game. It probably drops to 13 fps because it's still loading effects and textures when you jump into the game.
