Hey, so I got a used dell inspiron 14 3878 and it says no bootable drive detected "OS may be corrupted" blah blah blah, so I just thought "Ok I'll just install linux mint and it'll be fine" but it's still saying no bootable device unless I boot off a usb drive and it turns out it's reading the embeded 32gb of storage as an sd card and not letting me boot.cuz it says there's no boot drive. What can I do?

Sounds like your hard drive died.

Buy a new ssd

I can see the hard drive is working and even benchmarked it from my usb boot but it says it's an sd card. Also it's a emmc thing with no way or adding a 2.5 inch hard drive

the last owner did something f***ed up to get that to happen

did you try reinstalling windows?

anyway see if theirs an option to recover from the bios,

or check dells website for a recovery disk,

I tried but when I try installing it with the usb drive it says "The upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using windows installation media. If a copy of windows is already installed on this computer and you want to upgrade, remove the installation media and restart your computer. After windows has started normally, insert the installation media and run windows setup.". It recognizes the EMMC storage as an sd card for some reason and it won't let me boot off or put windows on a SD card.
